Cultural: Kinder Surprise eggs

Seen this morning at our local Lidl:

Kinder Surprise eggs (The word "Niespondzianka" is the Polish word for "surprise". They cost 2.99 zl each or about 75 cents (USD) at today's exchange rate.

You get 20 grams of chocolate in the egg plus the toys for about 75 cents in today's US dollars.  2.99 zl.

They also have some rather large ones currently. These seemed to be just in time for the Christmas holiday as I don't think that Lidl normally carries them.

These are much larger than the little ones.  I'm sure the surprise/toy will be bigger, but you also get a lot more chocolate - 100 grams instead of 20 grams.  100 grams is the size of a standard chocolate bar here.

I know many of you around the world CAN get them and for many years they were banned in the USA.  Reports seem to be varied about getting them in the USA now.  Amazon does seem to sell them.  I hope they don't fine anyone else at the border for bringing them to their grand kids if that is the case.

The chocolate is delicious. The toys are cute - many people collect them. Yes. adults collect these tiny toys. I've seen such a collection - in a huge glass jar.

Thought you'd enjoy this bit of life in Poland.
