I was wrong. Completely.

I thought I wouldn't have enough of this floral fabric to make a queen size top. 

Just goes to show that there's a lot I don't know!

As I was working on this one yesterday, making blocks, adding them to the top, making more blocks and adding them to the top, making it bigger and bigger, I realized by the time I went to bed that I would have enough to make a whole queen size quilt top! I was happy!

I had already made a top (Warp and Weft) out of the floral, and hoped to have enough leftover to make at least a twin size double Irish chain quilt out of the 2" floral strips, placed on either side of the hot pink and off white fabric I had. I knew that I would need about 4 yards of fabric, but because it was all in strips, I didn't really know how much I had.  I weighed it, and I figured I had about 800 grams of strips - but not all of that was "usable".

Anyway, here it is!

This fabric is just beautiful, but I have to admit, after making two quilt tops with it in the last few days, I'm ready for a break from it. The extra 2" strips are getting thrown into a baggie where I'm saving for making a 2" strips floral log cabin quilt.

Thrilled! That's what I was feeling as I kept seeing more strips which enabled me to make more blocks.. I literally felt like I was watching the widow's oil in my own life. (1 Kings 17:7-16 from the Bible)  

Not quite the same, but sorta.

It's about 97"x 97".  

I figured I didn't need to make it a king size which would have been the next size to make.  You see, with a chain quilt like this, it is best to work in "odd" numbered rows--for example, 3x3, 3x5, 5x5, 5x7, 7x7, 7x9, 9x9, 11x11, etc. By making them with odd numbered rows, it means the chain isn't left "open" and looks better to me.

This one ended up being a 13x13 layout.

A Double Irish Chain is a classic pattern, and found in multiple places on the 'net, but I wrote up the pattern just in case you need it.
