I've heard the term referred to by people on forums and posts on social media about quilts that are extremely densely quilted. This term, of course, is usually negative in context.

Here's "quilted to death".  

Yes. This is now my standard for "quilted to death."

And while I used to (silently--yes, can you believe it?) agree with those who disagreed that such quilts were "stiff" and unpleasant to actually use - let me assure you that this is pretty stiff and wouldn't be pleasant to sleep under!

What is it, you ask?

It's one of the samples I took along with my sewing machine (Janome 8900) to the shop last week.. I decided I would just make some small samples and then try to make a QAYG out of the squares - making each square a different type of quilting while using up some scrappy 16 patches from 2.5" squares. 

I laughed when I saw what they had done! 

Anyway, this is truly "quilted to death".

Here are some of the other samples I was making before I took the machine in - just to get it to begin to "mess up" and so I could be reasonably assured that I could "make it" mess up once I was at the shop. The shop is about 3.5 hours from our house and it was imperative that it show the repair people what I needed to!

And as to the other meaning of that term, I reserve my opinion. I do not have the skill or patience to "quilt a quilt to death" as some would refer to heavy, dense quilting. I surely admire the skill it took - they are in a class far above my own when it comes to quilting - whether by long arm or domestic sewing machine (or by hand).

And the answer to the question

"Is the sewing machine fixed?"

Yes!! Yes! and yes again!
