Quilted Twins

"Blooming in the Dark" finished

I made the top back in 2016, and it is part of my small (so far) floral series.

I have a lot of beautiful floral fabric and have tried to figure out how I can use it.

I created a smaller border inside the larger black outer border. I used the edge of the ruler and drew 2 lines that were 3" apart. I then just used the edge of the presser foot and made a double line. Then I put those elongated loops between them all the way around.  I'd never done them before, so I was a bit nervous.

Why do I have so much? Well, most of my "stash" was actually purchased from another lady who sold her mom's collection. She  had a tremendous number of florals. That's where I got most of them. I will need to figure out how make watercolor quilts using these florals as I'm not finding myself with a tendency to use a lot of florals, though, of course, I think they are beautiful!

But this one is Blooming the Dark - in Peter's Garden"-- as my twin's son, Peter, loves gardening and has a green thumb.

I did some stitch in the ditch around the orange in the middle of some of the stars. Other than that, I did some sort of curls/meandering with some hooks. Then I did a section around the border where I made some long loops:

When I alernated the light and dark stars, it added some interest to the design. I decided to go ahead and use different flowers for each of those spots as well.

I did some sort of hooking meandering in the empty spots. I am seeing a tendency to quilt smaller - even if I am not really purposely doing so.

With the light shining on the top, you can see where I stitched in the ditch on the orange in the middle of those stars. It helps define them.

The interesting thing is - my husband said he "really likes this one"!  He doesn't always like mine - especially if they aren't completely symmetrical. I have always liked this one - ever since I made the top. I'd put off quilting it because I didn't know what to do with it. I was afraid that I couldn't do it justice - but then I decided to just "do it" -

I have updated the pattern a bit with some new pictures and fixed a couple of small things. It's on the free patterns page.

I am enjoying the look with the quilts and the backdrop of green. My husband had just mowed the grass, so it looks especially nice!  I am glad I've decided to try to finish up some of these in the summer as the grass looks so different in the summer!  It's much greener, naturally!

Enjoy!

I hope you have a great day wherever this finds you reading!

Be sure to check out what my sis has for you over in the store!  She's surely got some amazing things coming!
