Charity Quilt Week 3 - Day 6
Today’s finishes:
These are the last of the Shadow quilt tops I’ve made for this year for the charity quilts. I am super pleased with them. I am curious how fast they will “go” but I think it will be pretty fast.
All in all, I made 12 of the solids and 9 of the floral so that is a total of 21 - and while I’m tired of making them, because I am so happy how they turned out, I could do another 21 except that I am about out of the dark gray for now. I would need to buy some more first. I say that is dark gray because I have a light gray that is so light that it almost looks white. I may make my next batch of shadow quilts with that as the background as it is kind of hard to use - I bought it from the one of the companies but by seeing it only on my screen and it is lighter than I really wish I had.
What I added today:
The piles are getting higher, even though I made them into four piles and not three.
I have now easily met my goal of 120 quilt tops. I am now just working on “cleaning up” all the dregs - the scraps, the partially cut things and the things I had hoped to make when I started this series of 120 quilt tops.
Hopefully will be finished with tops here very shortly! At this point my “cheap time” for pressing is in short supply and kind of cramping my style. No, I don’ t have to stick to it, as I can iron any time of day or night, but I am trying to do most of my ironing during my cheaper times (We have a two tiered price plan).
I am going to start preparing some backings today - I’ll include them in my next day’s report - and as I get closer to finishing up all the remaining tops (for now), I’ll put away the extra pieces of fabrics I have in my living room and and focus on sandwiching and getting going quilting some of these quilts. I will use a combination straight line quilting and free motion for these charity quilts. I’ve been considering exactly how I’m gong to go about the quilting process.
Oh, I got an envelope with some samples from one of the companies I bought from (Kejt). I wanted to see what their darker colors looked like before I order a whole bolt. I have found that it hard to get a nice “dark”, fully saturated color here from the Polish production. For example, purple. The purple I have is more lavender. I’d love to have a nice bolt of a deep, gorgeous purple. In my samples, I did get something they called plum which is nice and dark. I may order a bolt of that. I’m still thinking about it.
The interesting thing about this picture is that I had ordered “cappuccino” which I thought would be darker than I received - but here they included it as a sample and the color I got was NOT cappuccino. I’m including a picture here and on the left side of the picture is the bolt that I got which is more like an off white or cream. I’m okay with a cream or off white as I did need that color too - but I was thinking I would get something more like a tan.
I just have to be careful when ordering from them as I may not get what I ordered. It’s happened before.
The other company (Kary) I’ve used seems to be more careful in their order fulfillment.
One time I ordered something (from Kejt) and they sent me little tee pees and and Indian motif - which I hadn’t even thought about ordering. I decided to just keep it though, and use it for backing. But it has made me a bit careful when ordering from this company as I’ve included pictures, numbers, etc. so that if I need to return something I can prove that it is because I ordered something different from what they sent me.
This is the main reason I asked for samples - besides the fact that I’m looking for a hunter green and can’t seem to find one - or a burgundy - or a really nice grass green (why do people think that classic ‘ main colors’ are trendy? GRR!)
Anyway, I’m not here to complain about what I’ve gotten from the companies. I could always send it back, but that takes time and energy. Since I’m spending a lot of money each time I get a bolt, I just want to get what I order. I think you can understand that.
Be sure to check out what my sis has for you in the store!
