"Framed Crumbs"
I quilted this top I finished in the latter part of 2017.
It is made up of crumb blocks framed with black. I used cornerstones of small 9 patches to add interest and made the outer border all crumbs.
It’s a busy quilt, but one that has quite a bit of order in spite of all the madness!
If you followed along last fall when I was working on it, you may have seen the top already. But then again, we all tend to forget about tops that are stored, don’t we? I know I do. I like pulling them back out after not seeing them for several months! They look so pretty!
A closeup of the block and the cornerstones. I did simple loops quilting. I didn’t think the quilting on the crumbs part would even be seen, so I went with my default “need to get it to stay together” design.
The backing fabric is some huge tree fabric I bought here in Poland. I really like it - It is over 60” wide and they produce it for bedding. But what’s a quilt if it isn’t bedding??
Here you can see pretty well how I did the crumb borders. I did work with squares, but not only. I cut some of my orphan blocks into 6.5” wide pieces and just added them to the 6.5” blocks so that it made a long enough “border” to add.
I did finish the pattern and it is on the free patterns page and the strings/crumbs page.
And now you know - This is some of what I’ve been working on lately!
Have a great day, wherever you are reading this!
Make sure you check out what my sis has for you in the store! She is working hard to keep you in fabric you can afford!
