"Churn Dash Squared" finished
I was able to get this small quilt (well, “small” for me - 61”x73”) finished for my niece the other day. I decided on the simple name of “Churn Dash Squared” which was suggested to me here by Jean! Thank you very much!
I hope she likes it. It will be a while before I get it to her, though, so don’t expect a report right away!
Once again - in case you missed the other post - this is for my niece - my younger sister’s ‘tween daughter who loves cats and hot pink and lime…and MUSIC! I found out that she is first violinist in her orchestra that she plays in! And as far as I remember, she’s not hit her teens yet.
So, I tried to make it something that will keep her interest for a few years. I didn’t have a lot of the cat/dog fabric - so this is what I went with.
I hadn’t made any big half square triangles (HST) out of directional fabric before. I worked them up in with pieces of paper first - to make sure I wasn’t going to end up with upside down cats on one part of the HST.
I did an overall swirly type of design on the quilting and used hot pink and lime on the background. I bound it with black so that the back would look cool. My only other real choice was binding in hot pink and I thought black would be better - maybe just to bring back the music fabric back to the mind since it was also black.
I don’t think my niece knows about it yet, but her mom does (my younger sis). She assured me that her daughter will like it. Here’s hoping she does. I have have fun making it! (More fun than writing the pattern, that is for sure!)
The quilt roll: It’s a small one! Much smaller than I am used to taking pictures of!
I’ve worked up the pattern and it is here and on the free patterns page. I hope someone can use it!
Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
Be sure to check out what my sis has for you in the store!
