Cultural: Price Check!
Every once in a while I like to do a blog post that shares our prices of common items with you.
Why?
The croissants behind the tomato I bought strictly because I wanted to - didn’t need them nor did I even know for sure how much they were before I checked out. It’s just that this store is ‘cheap’ so I’m not terribly afraid to do that. They were already bagged up and ready to grab! I paid $0.64 each.
Mostly because I find it interesting to know from other people - so I figure you are interested in how much I have to pay for common things from the grocery store as well in my part of the world.
So - today I went to the store specifically to buy things so I could show you all.
I went to a local deep discount store called Biedronka - which is like Aldi or Lidl. This is not your expensive type store like Trader Joe’s or even a Kroger. It’s a deep discount store!
We have a lot of these stores around now, for which I am thankful! They really help our pocketbook!
Here it is:
Whiskas cat food - 3.8 lbs. - 1750 grams - $5.13
deli (type - meaning thin sliced) ham - about 8 oz. - $1.79
2% milk - 1 liter UHT - $0.54
Cini Minis cereal (Cinnamon Toast Crunch) - 300 grams - about 9 oz. - $1.41
sugar - 1 kilo /2.2 lbs. - $0.64
store brand Cola zero (like Sam’s Cola) - 2 liters $0.60
sunflower oil - 1 liter - $1.03
Yogurt - 400 grams peach - they were on sale if you bought 4 - 4/$1.53
Gouda cheese - 400 grams - on sale if I bought 2 - 2/$2.56 (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! )
Beefsteak tomato (never had I seen one before in a store like this so I had to buy it!) - $0.72
rectangular bread - fresh - individual deli bread - perfect for egg sandwiches - $0.20 each (!!)
I can add the deli ham to a piece of nice bread and a couple of fried eggs and some cheese and have a really nice egg sandwich!
And now you know! We actually don’t drink much milk anymore - really only use it in recipes - but I thought if I bought some Cini Minis next time I need to open a liter of milk to use for baking I can use the rest up on cereal.
Anyway - I know it’s not terribly enlightening. but I thought some of you would be interested in such a post.
Living here isn’t too expensive. Seriously. Some things are more expensive than the states, but groceries, for the most part, are very reasonable!
