"You Are My Sunshine"

I made this top last Monday.

On Thursday, Diane and Jeff came and got a bunch of tops from my sis and me and they finished it and brought them all back to us on Sunday!

Here it is.

This lap size quilt is 54”x64”.

It is a store sample—the whole “point” of making this one is to hang up in the store and show people that they can make THIS same quilt with fabrics we currently have.

I am not sure if you realize the problems we have had with the You Are Sunshine panels and accompanying fabrics. We believe the popularity of this line took them totally by surprise. The manufacturer ran out very quickly of the original print. Then they reprinted, and once again, they ran out. Somewhere along the line my sis got in bunch of panels and some of the accompanying fabrics.

However, we know that those ‘official’ fabrics cost more and we are always eager to help you make a cute or fun quilt for less. We don’t think you have to mortgage your house or use your child’s college education fun to pay for a quilt!

We have a lot of beautiful fabrics that coordinate with this panel. They aren’t by Timeless Treasures and designed to go with it, but they go nonetheless.

So, Rachael put together has a kit for this very quilt. Check it out here!

You will get all the necessary fabrics for making this quilt with these colors. It finishes at 54”x64”. Also included is the pattern.

Jeff and Diane quilted this one with super cute bees. I showed some closeups above. These bees are a bit different than the ones on the quilt my sis finished (shown yesterday).

All in all, to me it feels really strange to have the quilt finished so quickly. This is my second ever quilt I’ve ever not finished myself. Diane even bound this one for me using her machine. It all looks really nice.

Once again, if you want to use their services, just write them an email or give them a call. There is absolutely no reason that you have to wait for months to get your quilt back! If this is normal for you, maybe it’s time to find a different quilter. If you are having custom work done, then I understand that - but for computerized quilting - consider using them. If you are local and want to meet here at the shop, I’m sure that is fine with us.

I won’t actually get to keep this one. But that’s okay. Earlier this year I told my husband that I had to give away 25 MORE quilts than I finish this year. So far, I don’t think I’m even breaking even. This means that the last few months of this year I will be looking for people to unload some quilts on. Down here in Florida people simply don’t need so many quilts like people up north. That’s a fact.

I did give my son and DIL a quilt yesterday - I brought back my only “big geometrics” quilt for them. (Nr. 11 in that series.) They really liked it! Jessica said she was going right then and put it on their bed. But Florida is HOT and often times people use only a sheet. I told them the next time I will use only a flannel or a cotton batting as it is much cooler than the polyester. But they can use it for “looks” now. :) Later, when the weather turns cooler, maybe they can actually use it is a quilt!

And that’s it for today. I hope you enjoy this bit of eye candy!

Be sure to check out what my sis has for you in the store!
