Big Fabric Haul - end of month 8 update
Well, I’m glad I’m forcing myself to do these, or else I wouldn’t. I’m so busy doing so many different things that I feel a little bit like a chicken with its head chopped off.
But these are what I did work up this month.
I decided to try something a bit different. Easy, but different. I went through and chose out the lightest squares I had from my tans and decided to work with those this time. I knew the contrast would be great with the cream/almost tans and the green.
Now that I am done, I realize I finished these just in time for March’s SPRING. Of course, it’s February, still in Poland, and February is normally the heart of the winter here. I will add that it was strange to me, because when I used to live in Florida, February was often 80F and when I was a teenager, people started working on their tans in February. So to me, having February be “winter” was odd. Now I’m used to it - in fact, I’m not really emotionally ready for spring.
The first one pictured here used my lightest squares - all the same. The second one used alternating very light and then a bit darker. The bit darker was corduroy. The third is a mix of a variety of different “light” squares I have and the last was all the same squares of that corduroy, which is just a tad bit darker than the first one. I twisted and turned them various ways so if they look different to you, it’s the varying nap angles you are seeing.
I’m using up my tan solid very quickly so that I decided to try another color as the sashing color. I thought about orange or green - since I have a lot of both of these colors. I was afraid orange/ brown would make people think of “Halloween” (or fall - which would actually be great!) so I opted to go for green - at least this month! I may choose to do orange a different time or make them even more “Halloweenish” and wait til I’m working with blacks/grays. Then I can do black/orange.
I probably have more blacks/grays than these browns!
Here are the four that I made and put on the table for a group shot.
There you go. These took a bit longer to make than the last few ones as I used my walking foot and my Janome 8900 for all the pieced sashing pieces - and the Janome isn’t as fast as my the Juki. But I like how they turned out. I’m pleased.
I’m still getting used to the idea of green and not just tans/browns.
I had hoped to have a Give-Away in February and then between my husband’s plans for redoing the floor at the church and then my getting sick, (plus a couple other things which showed me it wasn’t feasible) those plans went by the wayside. So, now they are pushed ahead. I still want to have a charity quilt give-away before it gets hot! It’s not that having one is “that much work” - but it is a bit and I need to connect with a couple of people to help me. I can’t really do it all by myself. But I do have a couple of ladies who will probably help me - we just have to coordinate it all.
Anyway, from the Big Fabric Haul, these are tops #32-35!
Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
Be sure to check out what my sis has for you in the store!
