Geometrics 1 - Baby quilt with blue

Some of you might remember that I bought a kind of mystery pack of cotton fabrics off our local auction site here in Poland. It was mostly full of geometrics. They were cut offs from their business which is making simple quilts and pillows out of these fabrics.

The challenge in this small series (it won’t be long as I have a limited number of pieces of this fabric) is to use up these strips in a way that is pleasing to me. That’s my only criterion!

This block is very simple. I don’t think there is a simpler block than a rail fence except a plain block.

I cut these strips 2”x8” and sewed 5 together to make a block that is 8”x8” before being sewn into a quilt.

After I sewed the blocks together, I put a plain blue border on and then use 2.5” strips of geometrics and finished it off that way.

The finished top is 43.5”x 58.5” I wanted this a baby quilt size. Obviously making it bigger is great as well.

I like it!

And that’s all there is to it. I’ve not actually finished it yet, so no other pictures. It is small and pretty straightforward.

It’s very simple, but I can write up this particular pattern and have it ready before I show the finished quilt. I’m planning on quilting this one pretty soon!

And there you go! Even if you are a beginner you could make this quilt top, without a problem as long as you can do basic piecing.

Here is a picture of some of the fabrics in this group that I’m going to be using up:

Since it is a finite amount of “stuff”, hopefully it won’t take me too long to meet my own challenge of making these quilts. The “challenge” is that so much of it is geometrics and they have never been a “go to” design for me.

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
