Quilted Twins

BOM quilt finished

In this top that I finished earlier this year I explained what happened and how I came by these pieces. The lady that my sis and I bought her stash had these 11 blocks already made - I added the last one (the checkerboard) so that I would have an even 12 blocks.

All that is here.

But that part doesn’t actually matter.

I’ve been on a roll to finish up various and sundry tops sitting around my sewing room that have been untouched for some time.

I did the swirls and curls again on this one. It is smaller than I am used to as well!

One thing that I didn’t realize before I started quilting this was that the lady who had made most of the blocks hand pieced them! She really did an amazing job - and I didn’t know things could look this good as hand pieced blocks until these. I had gotten some hand pieced blocks/quilt tops as charity quilt donations a while ago - and they didn’t look like this. I was quite surprised. I guess I shouldn’t have been, though, as her daughter, who sold the fabric and sundries to us, told us she had won awards/ribbons!

I only noticed it because the quilting foot, which is an open toed foot, caught on the some of the places in the blocks. At first I couldn’t figure it out at all -but once I became aware of it, I was more careful.

Our winter hasn’t been very severe yet. You can see how the grass looks in this picture. It’s supposed to be all frozen!

Besides the quilting, my biggest contribution to this quilt is the layout.

I came up with that. Well, and the one block. And the borders, etc. I was glad I actually had some fabric that matched. I’m sure we got it in the lot of fabric we bought from her. I wouldn’t have known I had matching fabric, though, if my sis hadn’t come back in ‘16 and organized/folded all my fabric and put it on shelves.

I did piece the back - and tried to make sure it was off centered a bit. I can see I got it a little bit crooked. Oh well. That happens. I try not to have that happen, but it does. When it doesn’t, I feel like I got it right accidentally!

What matters at this point is that I finished this one! Happily!

And here is the quilt roll!

I’m not sure what I’m going to do with this one. I ended up really liking this quilt.

I may send it to the Ukraine with my husband for a gift or bring it back to the states and use it as a gift or give away. I’m still thinking about it.

And that’s all for today!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
