"Sunshine" - Folk shirts - top finished

I saw someone share their quilt made with this (FREE!) Moda pattern on a Facebook group a while ago. I don’t remember who it was or which group it was in, but it made a big impact on me. I loved it! It looked difficult and I wondered if it would be.

I had difficulty in believing that such a pattern was actually free, but it was! I was sure by the time I found it, it would have been retired from the freebies and made into “buy” pattern. But I was wrong. It is truly free. It is here! Thank you, MODA!

I decided to use my folk fabrics and make it beautiful! Most of these are Polish folk designs - regional patterns.

It is a little bit fiddly with the collar area, but the pattern shows enough pictures so that it is really not hard. I made one just to make sure I was doing it right before I made some more and then more. This pattern layout only uses 20 blocks, so that’s all I made. I did opt to switch it up a bit and put the lighter fabrics with a blue background so the design would show up more.

The stripes are especially effective as the shirts as every part of the shirt shows up well with them. The stripes fabrics are from various regions here in Poland.

I do like how these all turned out. I could have done a couple of the shirts better by choosing a different fabric for the inside yolk area which helps create the look but overall, they turned out well.

If you want to make it, just plan on trying one of these blocks first and don’t be in a hurry. Once you make one, and have success, you can then begin to make multiples as I did, and it worked well. When you finish one, they look so cool, it makes you want to make the next one!

I can see doing this quilt as any type of theme quilt—Patriotic, seaside, candy, food, floral, Hawaiian, or anything - would be fun with animals as well!

it really only takes about a fat quarter of any fabric for each shirt.

And there you are! I hope you’ve enjoyed this little foray into this fantastic Moda pattern! I am still amazed that such a complicated pattern is free! I wanted you to know about it as well!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
