"Simple Framed Squares on Point" - Geometrics 5
This one fully met my expectations! I really liked the change from pastels and pinks to red/black and white. Drama—big time! It’s really the only kind of drama I like.
Well, I like audio books drama…really I do.
Anyway…
I realize that number 4, with the hot pink also was dramatic, but red, black, gray and white are so classic, that I really wanted to do these colors up right.
So, to add to the very deep colors-- I put these simple framed squares on point, adding a sashing and cornerstones and added a bit of dark gray.
Overall, I’m not sure if it’s really a baby quilt or not. It is a baby quilt size…but could be a lap quilt. It would take a very forward thinking new mama to want this for her baby. Maybe someone who has already had the regular pastel colors and wants something different? I don’t know.
For the backing I did stick a piece of bright red polka dots down the middle of that black to make it more interesting AND to make it big enough.
When the wind was blowing, it seemed almost flirty - just showing enough to make you curious about what I did with the back. But you don’t really have to wonder - I just did a simple back - three pieces of fabric.
This was early in the series so I still had a lot of nice fabrics. I used quite a variety of them in this quilt!
It’s still quite chilly here - even if our winter has been quite a disappointment as far as winters go. This is probably the third one in a row now that we’ve hardly had a winter. I guess it helps all of our heating bills!
There was a bit of wind, but what I’ve noticed around here is that we almost always have “a bit” of wind. It is just that these small, almost “tiny” quilts react to the wind so easily. The larger ones - queen size, specifically, are so heavy that they aren’t moved quite so easily by the wind! For example, this one was whipped around in the wind, but in a few days you’ll see a much larger one that hardly moves - photos taken the same day. I found it interesting, anyway.
As usual - the quilt roll!
I have updated the Geometrics page. Now the pictures are updated to current on this project!
