I had some scraps in a bag from a couple of memory quilts that I had made in January for Ewa and her husband. I uncovered this bag while cleaning up after the Mystery Quilt and most of the mask making debris. and the browns that I cut up into 10” squares! I decided to just go ahead and “deal with it”.

I had saved all the pieces so I could make up some more crumb blocks.

In spite of being tired - mentally, I wanted to do some quick, easy sewing - something I didn’t have to actually think about.

So I decided to “use up” those scraps. I wanted to make up crumb blocks with them and see if there was enough left to make another quilt - lap quilt was fine - for my friend’s husband. After all, the scraps were from his side of the family’s clothes.

And so I did. It wasn’t too hard. I had 3 pockets and managed to get 21 crazy blocks - 6.5” out of those scraps. What was left was enough to possibly get a pin cushion out of. I bagged up the leftovers and gave them back to my friend, Ewa. She grinned when she saw them!

This one went together very quickly.

I made the 21 blocks and put the top together on Friday afternoon/evening and sandwiched and quilted it on Saturday morning. About noon I washed it, and hung it out to dry. My friend came over about 4:30 pm and I gave it to her for her husband. She wasn’t expecting it, naturally. I hadn’t mentioned it. (I mean, I had just started it the day before.) Naturally that also meant that I stopped “cleaning up” the dining room area. Ahem. Oh well. I am just going to make myself keep working on it for 30 min a day until it is all cleaned up. I need to cleared off so I can use the table to sandwich again. I have several tops waiting for me to quilt and this week it’s supposed to turn cool again - a great chance to get some more quilting done before the heat of the summer hits us.

So…here it is. It’s small. Just a tiny lap size. but it’s all I had. I think it’s about 41”x55” or so. It really felt tiny.

I put a 3.5” border of some sailboat fabric because this couple likes to sail - and then I tried to make some wave-looking quilting. It was my first attempt at such a thing.

All I did to make this was to make some 6.5” crumb blocks, then used 1.5” strips for sashings. The outer blue border was cut 2.5” inches and the thicker board (sailing) was cut 3.5” and then the last border was cut 2.5”.

So there you are. A nice little quilt - using 3 pockets and 21 blocks.
