Quilted Twins

"Simply Woven" - a free Moda pattern

I made it this one long before we started the blog/website.

I wanted to show it - mostly because I wanted to make sure I got some really good pictures of it but also because I may find it a new home soon - so I thought it was time to memorialize it as one of my 2.5” strips quilts.

This pattern is Simply Woven and it is a free pattern found here. I originally found it on Moda’s “Bake Shop” site. I think they’ve moved it to another location, but that link should be good - at least when I wrote this post it was.

This quilt uses a lot of scraps and looks fantastic! I’ve seen lots of them made over time and I like everyone’s. It is great as a totally scrappy. It would also be great as a red/white/blue - just make those woven pieces red and blue. Or pastels, or browns, or any colorway you wanted!

It was actually one of the first ones after I got some really nice scrubs at thrift stores in the states and cut them up for such projects. It was also well before we bought the lady’s stash that kind of propelled the whole ‘fabric business’.

I’m not sure if you realize it, but I’ve started a page that shows my scrap quilts which I’ve made from my 2.5” strips. Up til now, I’ve focused on 2” strips because I had so many. However, by now I’ve got so many 2.5” strips that I know I need to start using. So, I am.

There are lots of “jelly roll” quilt patterns out there. This happens to be one of the free ones that I really like!

Upon further reflection, I’m taking this one back out of the pile of quilts to give away. There are simply too many very fun fabrics here that I got when I first started looking for good usable fabrics out of second hand items.

Plus, we used this one on our bed for a while and I really liked it.

I think there are others that would be much easier to give away to which I have little or no emotional attachment.

When I look at this one, I remember all the fun times I had going to yard sales and thrift stores looking for amazing 100% cotton scrubs on their “today’s specials” while back in the states.

So, while I said I was going to memorialize it before I gave it away, through the process of making this blog post, washing it, hanging it up to dry, taking the photos, and then choosing which photos to feature, I think I’m changing my mind for now.

And I can. This one is staying home.

There I said it.

And now I feel better.

I will give others instead of this one. Maybe I’ll even make a different one with the same pattern to give away if I want to. I certainly have enough strips! (Remember last month’s end of April report? I’ll put the picture here in case you don’t remember or haven’t or never read that post!)

Mark this one down as “colossal fail” in my efforts to lesson my numbers of quilts in my home!

Anyway….now you know!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
