The other day I mentioned that I probably had five more pieces of brown to cut up and then I’d have all the brown from “The Big Fabric Haul” cut up - so that they would be ready to use in tops. (I’m cutting it all into 10” squares and using them at that size because the fabric is sportswear and thicker and heavier than quilting cotton!)

I don’t know what I was thinking.

I had 5 more pieces, yeah.

Then I found 2 more bags (the size of those Polish floral ones that I’m giving away!) of pieces - ready to cut up. Ahem.

As I was going through it, as well, I looked at some of this fabric, and petted it, and decided that I was going to put aside about 5 pieces JUST in case I wanted to try to make a skirt or two for myself. The fabric is mighty fine. Once I cut it up, I can’t go back and make a skirt. But if I change my mind and don’t want to do it - I can still cut it up into 10” pieces. So I put those aside. Brown isn’t my color that much, but a khaki might be nice.

Anyway, the rest of the story is that I found about 7 pieces in my fabric storage room, then probably 10 or 15 in the dining room in bags on the floor where they had gotten covered up with other things.

This is how many MORE squares I ended up with. And to think I told you I had “only 5 more pieces of fabric” left to cut. It wasn’t true. It was a case of “out of sight, out of mind”. I remembered the fabric I had put in the fabric storage room (guest room)…but not the other two bags.

I cut for a couple of hours on Monday and Tuesday to get this.

First I went through and stripped it all into 10” strips. I did that mostly on Monday. Then on Tuesday, I finished stripping all the other pieces and then sub cut everything into 10” and then 8” squares.

Leftovers smaller than 8” are being donated to someone else to use as they see fit.

Between the batting, thread and what fabric I’ve already used, I feel like I’ve gotten my $400 already out of it. And I have lots and lots more thread, more than half of the fabric and then all of these browns plus this box of already cut up 10” squares.

I also have some 8” squares.

Sometimes the fabric had enough to cut 2, 10” squares and an 8” cut, and so I did that. I haven’t touched any of the 8” squares yet. I’ll probably figure something out with those after I use up the 10” ones.

Now, some of these fabrics are corduroy - and some very wide wale corduroy, so it is really quite thick. So possibly it looks like more than it is here.
