More updates

Well, here in Poland things are changing quite rapidly and as of today, Saturday, the 24th, the whole of Poland is now in the red zone. They are closing all restaurants - only drive though will be available for the next two weeks minimum.

We are now having over 10,000 (closer to 15,000) cases of COVID per day (or more).. and it hasn’t even been All Saint’s Day. The administration is very concerned. They are pleading with people not to go to the cemeteries on November 1 because there are normally huge crowds there.

They are also asking the seniors (over 70) to stay home. I don’t think at this point that they are punishing people for going out and believe me, this has caused NOT a little discussion and a reminder of martial law—they aren’t happy about it.

They have also closed all the schools from 4th grade and up - it will be only on line.

Yesterday my husband (he’s 63) went out between 10 and 12 to see if the seniors were the only ones shopping at the grocery store. Not hardly. He said no one was checking IDs and there were plenty of younger people shopping. So much for that rule (that shopping between 10 am and 12 noon was to be for seniors only).

My husband and I didn’t realize they were closing the restaurants again and we did go out on Friday (the day I’m writing this) to McDonald’s. Now that I know that they are closing - for at least two weeks - I’m glad we did go out. I feel so bad for the owners of the restaurants and the workers - I’m glad we could support them.

ANYWAY…

Back to charity quilting and the hunt for more backing!

I did start the order for some more backing fabric from a local Polish company. I sent an email to one of the companies I’ve used before and asked about 6 different fabrics. Of the 6 I asked about, they only had 1 of them in stock. I then wrote back and asked about 6 more - but then had the thought to ask if there was a list of fabrics in stock so we didn’t keep going back and forth with me spending my time asking for certain fabrics and the lady saying, “Sorry, we don’t have that!” and then I have to go find more. That seemed to me like a big waste of time.

Thankfully I received a Google drive file of all of the fabrics that they have in stock and I went through them and chose 6. This will help me a lot!

I’m getting closer to using up what I already have. I am also getting closer to sandwiching half of the quilts - and I will be jumping up and down for joy (exaggeration!) once I have! You will probably not hear me, though!

I’ll show you the pictures of what I ordered - we’ll see - but I should be able to get them as long as they get the order processed while they still have these fabrics. I will know how much this will cost probably on Monday. I pay up front - meaning, by bank transfer, and then they will ship them.

One of the courier companies that delivers fabric to me

Shipping to me is inexpensive, believe it or not. I only pay about $6 for every two bolts to be shipped to me - so that means, 100 meters (think yards) of fabric is delivered for only $6! They put two bolts (50+ meters each bolt) together in plastic and tape them to be one package and couriers deliver it (the couriers groan when they pick such packages off the truck!). They are HEAVY, too! I then manage to drag the package up the stairs and into the house. Then I can open up the package and deal with only one bolt at a time!

I hope I get the elephants and the cars. When I asked for them, they were down to only one bolt of the elephants and two of the cars on yellow - and both I would really like! These are coming from a company called Kejt - you say it like we say “Kate”.

It took me quite a while today to get this ordered. I didn’t get the final order to the office of Kejt until after 4:30 pm so I think I will get the final order (receipt) and be able to pay for it on Monday. Here they don’t deal with checks - I’ve never seen one - and with such companies, I can’t pay with credit card - it’s all cash.

However, since it is all ordered via the internet, I have to prepay into their bank account. Once they get the notification that I’ve paid, they ship.

And there you go. Today I spent time trying to get my absentee ballot sent to me via email since I never got my regular paper one - and taking care of this order for this fabric. Once this is on its way I will see about ordering some solids - red and blue especially. I can’t finish more of the Spiderman panels until I have these colors.

The local Polish cotton fabric companies got hit hard with fabric orders back in March and April for masks and I’m not sure that they’ve gotten restocked yet, so obviously I need to have patience with various “lacks” I am seeing when trying to order. Thankfully I can afford to be very flexible and work with what they have.

And now you know! Have a great day wherever you are reading this!

My sis is worried that some of you will think that I/we will ship these to you. I am using these for charity quilts here in Poland - as backings. These will not be available in the store in Dade City, FL, USA. You’ve got so much more over there than I do over here that you should count your blessings every day about your choices of cotton fabrics perfect for quilting if you live in North America. These are staying on this side of the ocean.

If you need some fabric, be sure to check out what we have here at Quilted Twins.

Rachael has made up a lot of great combinations of fabrics - here is one of them.

This amazing Coffee Blend pack is by Kanvas and all 11 pieces are ONLY $33!!! Get yours here.
