Quilted Twins

The rest of the story - the batting

I told you last week when I bought the batting that I would let you know you how many of the single charity quilts I can get from one 50 meter (1 meter = 39”) roll.

I had a pad of paper close to where I was working and and put a mark for each quilt I finished sandwiching.

I was able to get 22 out of the one bolt.

The pile on the right is a pile of 22 quilts - most of them are quilted, but 4 in the pile are just sandwiched and not yet quilted.

Last week when I bought the batting, I put two bolts in the back of the vehicle. I left one of them in during this past week just because each one of these rolls take up so much space and I didn’t want it in the house until I was ready to use it. Today I got the second bolt out.

To summarize, if each bolt of 50 meters of batting costs me $41.63 (as the exchange rate would be today), the batting for each of these single size charity quilts costs me only $1.89!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are you kidding me?

I’m not.

That’s why I use it.

To think that I can get batting for ONE charity quilt for less than the average large drink at your fast food restaurant - well, it’s actually amazing.

So there you know - I will need at least 6 bolts - though once I begin to work on the larger ones, I am thinking I will only get about 15 from each bolt.

Anyway, now you know!

For my own quilts, I actually prefer using cotton batting or the Hobbs 80/20. It quilts so nicely - but there is no way I could afford it - as that kind of batting here would cost me about $50 per queen size quilt at the prices I’ve seen on line.

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
