My husband brought up this quilt from the basement room that we are cleaning out (well, my husband has been cleaning out “all the rest” - I had cleaned out a lot of it a year or more ago) —he was bringing up some things that I had left in the room because I didn’t want to make a decision about the things.

I decided to wash it since I wasn’t thrilled with how it smelled. Thankfully it came out fine. Then I decided to “show it” since I’ve never done that.

This one is made using scrappy 3” 9 patches. After I made the 9 patches, I put a 3” sashing - using various off whites and creams.

I quilted it with straight line quilting using the presser foot and just following the lines of the blocks - so I call it “quilting beside the ditch”. I’ve since heard it called other things such as “echo quilting” - though I tend to think of that as a little more dense quilting following a design and then again and again.

What am I going to do with it?

I DO NOT know!

I will give it away - but not sure to whom.

I am unsure about making it a random charity quilt as I’d love to give it to someone who especially loves piecing with small pieces. This is quite a bit more work than something made from 6” squares or even 4.5” squares as you know!

So, I’ll be looking for a recipient - maybe a charity (but hand picked) or just a simple gift quilt to a needy couple here in the area. I’d send it with my husband to the Ukraine—for one of his students, when he goes to teach, but things are still on hold for flying there for now. So, we’ll see!

Our leaves are starting to fall. Our fall has been a little late in coming this year. It’s been pretty warm for Poland so far. We may actually get a nip of a frost in the garden later this week.

A straight on shot of the middle. I do like little squares and these little 9 patches are probably my favorite block of all time! :) I know. So simple. But I still think they are adorable!

This quilt is so simple, I doubt you need a pattern.

But if you want to know the details - I used strip piecing to make the 9 patches— sewing a dark 1.5” strip to a light 1.5” strip then another dark 1.5” strip. Then I pressed, and subcut off 1.5” segments. I did the reverse for middle sections. Then, I made the 9 patches from those strip pieced units. The off white squares are cut 3.5” and the sashing units are cut 3.5”x9.5”. I simply straight line quilted all the way across once as shown on some of the close ups.

I still had it on the table when this morning for breakfast I rolled it up. As I was moving it, I told my husband, “I had better hurry up and get this one out of here because I’m starting to like it more and more!” I then moved it to my “donate” pile which is getting pretty high.

He just laughed!
