Zucchini!

If one could feed the hungry with zucchini and they’d be happy with it, well, we could end world hunger!

While I was lying in bed trying to sleep, my husband went over to the garden area and checked out what was up with the zucchini. I had asked the neighbor lady if she wanted some and to please keep it picked while we were gone. I knew she loved it.

Alas, when my husband went to the garden area after being here for a day or so, he found out that she apparently had gotten “zucchinied out”. So this is what he picked.

While he was over there picking them, the neighbor lady came over and he gave her two more! We had hoped they would be all current and only small ones. Anyway, of these you are looking at, the smallest ones are about 10-12” long and the long ones - well, they are baseball bats.

My husband was able to give them away to a couple in the church whose wife is Ukrainian and he’s Polish and they are great at using everything like that.

The exciting part is that Mike told me that I am going to have some pumpkins as well. When I left, the pumpkins were really not looking all that productive, so as we drove in, and I got flashes of orange as we passed the garden area, I was really happy.

So there you go. My little “Tillman-gardener” heart is happy. I hope that these plants will now recover from their baseball bats and begin to produce again. I’d like to try to dehydrate some chips. I think that they’ve proven that gardeners are the ultimate optimists! (my husband probably would disagree- he thinks I’m a pessimist! - which I’m not actually - more like a realist).

Anyway…as I glance outside from my various places on the couch, the bed, the kitchen table, and as I gradually get more strength and stamina, this is just one of the small pleasures afforded to me.

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
