"Granny Squared" - Up Greens #17 top finished
I liked my first granny square top (Jumbo Granny Squares) so much that I decided to try it again, only this time the granny squares are much smaller.
However, the top isn’t smaller - in fact, it’s a very nice size. I suppose some might even call it a king - but I call it a queen. Mostly because after I quilt and wash them, they seem to shrink enough to not be that 105” or 110” which I think of as a king size. This one starts out at about 101.5” as a top. After I finish it - I’ll let you know how big it is.
Here it is. I was looking to make this one feel soft and feminine - or as much as I could with the fabrics I have available. It’s a bit harder when you are using upcycleds than you can carefully consider each of your fabrics.
However, I do think I got what I wanted. The pink and light green were sheets.
This top is made up of only 2 blocks - the granny square block and a chain block. Obviously then, I made the side setting triangles and corner setting triangles in the same pink as the cornerstones and the pink that is in the light green chain blocks.
It looks JUST like the plan I drew out in EQ. Let me show you that.
I don’t know why I’m always surprised when that happens as it happens so often. I think it is because I’m really not using any special fabrics when I draw it up - just choosing the colors trying to match with what I have - or at least what I think I have.
I haven’t written the pattern yet, but will finish it before I show the finished quilt.
Just to remind you - here is where I stand with the UP Greens series! It’s been so long since you’ve seen it, maybe it will be a nice reminder.
Have a great day wherever you are reading this! Thanks for coming along with me on my quilting/sewing journey!
