Cultural - Price Check!

It’s been a long time since I did this, and I thought it was time to do it again.

I bought several basic grocery items that we eat and I wanted to share with you the prices I paid. I did do this shopping at Lidl, which would be considered a “deep discount” grocery store. Comparable shops in the states would be Aldi, Lidl, and Save-A-Lot.

Here are the things I bought that I’d thought I’d show you and tell you what they cost me today. I’ll share it in Polish zloty (PLN) and then show you how much it is in USD since most of you are Americans who read this.

10 eggs - 5,49 PLN - $1.48 for 10 or about $0.15 per egg

green seedless grapes - 9,99 PLN/kilo - $1.22/lb.

a can (about 15 oz.) of sweet corn (store brand) - 2,79 PLN - $0.75

250 grams (about 1/2 lb. or about 1 cup) of margarine for baking - 1,99 PLN - $0.53

a 500 grams or about 1 lb. of spreadable margarine - 3,99 PLN - $1.07 for the container

1 kg (2.2 lbs) of table salt -0,89 PLN - $0.24

1 liter of UHT milk - 1,74 PLN or $0.46 for one (need 3.78 to make one gallon) (on sale today) = $1.74/gallon

ketchup bottle - Lidl brand - 500 grams/about 16 oz. - 2,99 PLN or $0.80

bananas - 4,99 PLN/kilo - $0.60/lb.

frozen vegetables - 2,39 - 4,99 PLN/package or $0.60 and $1.34/per bag of about 15 oz. mixed veggies

bacon - need to slice it ourselves - 19,90 PLN/kilo or $2.43/lb.

500 grams (about 1 lb.) of white mushrooms prepackaged - 5,49 PLN or $1.48/package

fresh bread/rolls - (ciabatta) - 79 groszy for one $0.21 for one

chicken thighs - 7,49 PLN per kilo or $2.03 per kilo is $0.92/lb.

fresh whole chicken without GMO - 7,69 PLN/kilo or $2.07 per kilo or $0.94/lb.

about 2 cups of cherry tomatoes - 6,99 PLN - $1.88 (it’s off season :))

Enjoy! I know…it’s short and it’s got nothing to do with quilting but everything to do with life!

And I wanted to note - that I think, in general, our prices on food are quite reasonable!!! I’m usually suffer sticker shock when I return to the states!

So…how does this compare to what you pay for, say, eggs, or frozen veggies, or chicken? If you tell us in the comments, can you also tell us what city/state or country you are in? Thanks!

Have a great day wherever you are!
