Quilted Twins

A lot of little things

Our cold front came back, we got snow again, and the temperatures have been dipping into the single digits F.

When I took this picture, it was about 10F. This was taken Friday morning.

So, for us, it’s cold. It’s great weather to stay inside and sew!

I’ve been sewing - and doing some planning, and I do need need to do some straightening up, cleaning up and other “non blog worthy” type of things.

I made this one in 2012. One of my first four “Upcycled” quilts.

My husband and the other guy got that room in the basement close to being done. The man who helped us wouldn’t take any money. We felt really bad about that because we felt like he worked long enough for us that he should have taken some money.

So…

I gave him a quilt to take home to his wife on the last day of his help - Actually I asked him to choose between 5 quilts. He chose one - one of my early upcycled ones- mostly blue. I also asked him to ask his 10 year old daughter about one as well. He took photos and said they’d tell me on Sunday about his daughter.

I figured if he wouldn’t take money, he should at least take a quilt or two.

(We did feed him a meal every time he was here during our dinner hour.)

I went out and scoured one store, Biedronka, on Fat Thursday afternoon so I could show you better how it looked in at least one of the stores. When I checked out with my modest number of donuts, two teen guys were getting two boxes of them.

While this may be a fun tradition, the ones for sale on this day are not usually the best that exist. If you want the tastiest, probably a regular bakery would give you better quality. Biedronka is similar to Save-A-Lot or Lidl - a deep discount store.

I bought two like this - they had a cream filling - not a cream like Bavarian cream, sadly, but a whipped cream type filling. They were good, however.

If you aren’t expecting a pudding type cream, they are fine. If you are, they are a serious disappointment.

Been there, done that.

Remember the post about our black and white cat, Skagway? Well, our normally well adjusted gray cat, Tuq, has been suffering since his buddy went to kitty heaven. Seriously. He has been acting like a baby - needing a lot of attention.

He used to almost not want or need to be petted (by us - Skagway would groom him).

Now he wants to be in someone’s lap or computer desk area all the time. And he yowls! I hope he adjusts soon!

But then, I need to remember that when we brought him home, we had the black/white one (Skagway) and they bonded very well so he has basically lived his life with Skagway acting the role of a parent to him.

He’s been spending a lot of time on my husband’s lap. He’s also tried to get on top of my Janome 8900 while I sew - but I have to throw him off (ever so gently).

We need our gray cat to adjust to being an “only” cat.

I’ve fixed it now. It was wonderful that the problem was along the edge.

I had a mistake in my latest UP greens top - Log cabin one - so I fixed that. The mistake was here, for those of you who didn’t realize it. I appreciate the heads up by one of you all!!! You don’t realize quite how much!

I’ve collected this much since the first of January. Seems like quite a bit to me - even though this container is tiny!

I’ve had to spend a bit of time lately cleaning out both my Juki and my Janome 8900 - dust and lint from the tension disks.

Now they both sew fine again. I heard on a video about cotton that cotton fabric sheds little fibers like nothing else - and in doing so creates a lot of dust. Makes sense to me.

If you had wondered about all that dust in your sewing room - well, this fabric we work with contributes mightily to it!

And so, that’s it for today. Enjoy.

Have a great day wherever you are reading this! Stay safe!

Be sure to check out what my sis has for you in the store here!

Here’s one of the beauties we have!
