Quilted Twins

An update on some small things

I’m sure you realize that I can’t show you a finished quilt or top every day.

Right?

Right.

It could be possible, I suppose (depending on size and complexity), but I am doing some things on the website as well, and just doing “other things” besides sewing.

One of those “other things” is that I am working on trying to eliminate more things from the house -

What do you mean? For example,

I know, I could just throw these away or toss them into recycling, but I saw on our Oddam (freecycle) group that many people actually wanted these. So I saved them out separately from my other glass.

Yesterday I got rid of some glass candle holders,

We replaced this fixture - so this one with only three glass bulbs was able to go somewhere else - someone who wanted it!

a light fixture and

Someone wanted this as well! It’s a carpet remnant.

an old piece of carpet my husband brought up from the basement where he is trying to make a workshop while at the same time cleaning out unwanted things from there.

This mattress looks worse in the picture than it is in real life. The other side looks pretty good!

I also took a mattress from the house to the church for the next time someone needs one. It can stay there out of our way and will be ready for someone who needs it.

I know I had a question about the Big Fabric Haul - a few blog posts ago - in the comments.

Where do I stand on that project?

I stopped working on the browns - but my elves made up 30+ tops, while I was in the states last year. I actually figured that worked out for me to equal one a week for 30+ weeks. I stopped working on those because, frankly, I need to buy some more of the solid cappuccino light brown/tan to work with the pieces I have left. I pretty much cut up all the leftover brown into squares. I talked about that before. A while ago now.

I now need to learn how to work our new website so I can update these pages as I can. I’m starting this learning process now!

I did finish a few of the tops that my elves friends made up in the 2020 charity quilts. But not a whole lot. Most of them are in the bins at the church building. I had decided to focus on the older tops I had sitting in my house. And I can’t focus on everything, because in essence, focusing on everything means focusing on nothing. I chose to finish up all the older tops.

It meant I had to let my brown of the Big Fabric Haul - just go on hold. I’m sorry. I felt like I failed. But I also realized that possibly my goal was too big. Too grand. Too unrealistic. Sadly.

I had wanted to have started on the black by now. Let me show you the black fabric that I have in my storage room at the church building. Just click on the arrows to go right or left.

Oh…and I know…some of it is gray and there are even a couple of blue pieces in it.

This little wardrobe has quite a few tops in it. My goal this year is to get the lower ones (they are larger) tops FINISHED! That would be so great! Quilting them is easy as I just do straight line quilting down the center of each square. Looks good and is easy. No stress!

I took over about 18 smaller tops today to the building - just to keep them out of my house. This is where I stand on those.

How did I get 18 more tops? Well, it’s my elves. Actually, it’s the mom of Ewa - she enjoys sewing, so I’ve given Ewa things to give to her to sew up for me. It keeps her busy (which she likes!) and lets me focus on quilting only of the charity quilt tops.

Lately I’ve given her some of the Scrapbook type charity quilt tops - for children - - darker colors - and some of the Fran’s tops to make into twin size.

The layout of the Scrapbook style top is shown below.

This is where I stand on tops at the church building. It is also where they are stored.

This messy scribbling means I have 107 small tops in bins and the wardrobe and 69 large tops. Plus I have some at the house that need to be finished up into twin size before I can quilt them. The ones I have in the house are pretty much all from Fran - and are Around the World style.

This is where I have the various quilt tops that are made up and ready to go. They are “under the charity quilts! Hmm. Seems like I’ll need to give the lot away in order to get to the tops, huh?

When I say “scrapbook style” - this is the look I mean. I can use 13 different children’s prints on a quilt like this. It is fun and ends up being amazing! They are very popular for the children!

As much as this number of tops might seem overwhelming to you - to me, it feels wonderful. To have that many tops is very freeing - it means I’m ready to do 10 whenever I want to. That’s fun.

I think I need to get some more “kid friendly” backing though. You go through it quickly when you starting making 10 quilts at a time. Thankfully by now some of the places I bought from before are beginning to get restocked. And that makes me happy!

How many charity quilts do I currently have in my room? 123.

No photo of that. Sorry.

I’m getting back going on those charity quilts now - this week. That way I won’t have to spend 2 or 3 months all at once on them. I don’t want to do that to myself again. I am going to try to mix them up with my other things better this year.

Otherwise, I am currently working on and want to get back to quilting the 3 UP greens tops I’ve finished somewhat recently, a gift quilt and the argyle bargello I made last year. I also have an UP Greens top in the works and am eager to get back to it.

The free patterns page is here.

Oh, and I’ve learned how to add free patterns back to the website!!!!

Now, I can add back those that got lost during the move. If there is one you have been waiting for, please put it in the comments below. Otherwise, I’m adding a few every day until I get caught back up.

All of these things are some of what is going on around here!

And now you know!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this! Stay safe!
