Here is my third Upcycled Greens quilt -

And boy is it simple.

If you remember right, as when I started with the UP Blues series, I tend to start with bigger pieces, and then as I use up the big areas of the clothing and such, I will go with smaller and smaller pieces in the quilts I make.

With this super simple quilt design, I used only half square triangles.

But, since a lot of quilts made with this design aren’t made with florals and the soft pink/green combo, I decided on this name. It’s a play on Shabby Chic. I thought it was obvious, but decided to add this sentence just in case it isn’t to everyone.

The design itself is a little ironic. Strong, pointy lines with soft colors and florals. I did that on purpose.

I used a variety of light pinks/roses/even soft peach - because that is what I have - in the background - and I like it better than if I hadn’t. All of them are tone on tone, or solids, however.

I thought you’d like to see a close up of the fabrics I used. Lots of florals - green based with pinks or rose colors in with most of the greens.

With this upcycled green series, I will probably mostly use green with something else.

While it hardly feels necessary to actually write up a pattern, I will. But until I finish the quilting and get it written officially, here is the layout.

I cut the squares at 6.5” and after making the half square triangles, I trimmed them down to 5.5” and they finish at 5” in the quilt top. I put the top together in rows.

In case you are wondering about the others in the UP Greens series - as it’s been a while since I did very little on the series in 2020 - here are the first two.

I know. Those two chevrons are finished 2 and 3 in this series. However, that isn’t really how I have them in my folder on my computer. This one I just finished is actually number 5 in my planning.

As to how many will be in the series? I have no idea. People in Poland/Europe don’t use nearly as much green for their clothing as they do blue, so I really don’t have as much.

Also, I do seem to have a lot of solid greens - so my “solids” consist of two boxes (one darker and one lighter); plaids/stripes, 1 box; florals and prints, 1 box; and I have a tone on tone, 1 box. I want to get them down to 2 boxes total.

This finishes up the third top and I am currently working on number 4. I have numbers 5 and 6 planned. At that point I guess I’ll see where I stand on supply. However, if the UP Blues series is any clue, I’ll probably have enough for between 15 and 20 queen size quilts - just guessing! It doesn’t feel like I could possibly, but I know when you add a contrasting color, your fabric stretches. On the other hand, once you start using up pieces as small as 1.5”x1.5”, which is about as small as I want to go, you do end up with quite a few pieces.

At the end I could make up a Mosaic with greens using another 1.5”x2.5” bricks. How cool would that be? This is Mosaic in case you don’t know or have forgotten.
