The Life Cycle of a Panel at the QT store
We do not currently have THIS particular Spiderman panel in stock, but this is a sample of how I turned a simple panel into a twin size quilt. 60”x80”.
One of the things that we have in the store are panels! Yes, we do. We have lots of them.
I know that I like them because they usually feature cool pictures or motifs that make a statement all by themselves. I’ve had very good success with Spiderman panels with charity quilts - along with any other single sort of iconic image. They are usually chosen first when it comes to charity quilts for the kids - esp. boys.
I thought I’d show you what happens when we get a bolt of panels in - from delivery of the bolts to the finished product in your package.
What my sis does, when she gets in the bolts of panels, they separate them from the other bolts of fabric. I took this one home with me to cut it up while I sit with mom.
Then I cut it up.
After that, I fold it and put it into little baggies.
After that they are given numbers, photos applied and put on the website.
I’m waiting on an infusion of plastic baggies so I can finish these.
They are cut up, given a number, and then put on the website. They then make their way into these trays where people in the store can pick out one if they like it. Otherwise, the people who fill orders grab the one they want in order to fill the order.
Once they are all packaged up, they are easy to sell and handle.
So with panels, we do the work “up front”. There is a bit of time in all that organization but how fun it is it fill an order that is full of panels! I only imagine the delight of the person who is getting all of them!
Sometimes we want or need ideas on how to use them - and that has been my challenge during these days. My sis has given me several to try to feature. She said that people love “easy” - and so I have made up so far quite a few panels into tops and hope to do more.
So, in addition to doing some cutting up of panels into individual panels, this year, I am also using the Electric Quilt program to plan and design some quilts.
So there you - another glimpse into the panels here at the shop. My sis has over 700 current panels on the website! If you need one for a certain occasion, she probably has one!
