Quilted Twins

I didn't wait to buy!

Please note - this is taking place here in POLAND - not Florida. This is “MY” situation - do not ask my sis to ship you this fabric please! We may be twins, but not all of this blog/website is about selling fabric which most of you realize if you have been reading here long. Maybe from a marketing standpoint, it would be better if it were, but from a “human” standpoint, it is better that not everything is about selling. :)

(I wrote this so my sis didn’t have to ask me to clarify the point.)

I was wanting to go to one of local wholesalers (Kejt - pronounced ‘Kate’) with my husband once they lifted the restrictions here in Poland and the store re-opened.

However, they still haven’t opened the store back up - so I kind of quit wanting to wait. Our numbers of COVID-19 in Poland are heading back up, so I don’t expect them to open up soon now although I’m beyond guessing what any government is going to do anymore.

I “liked” their (the fabric company) Facebook page and now I can see what they have in stock as they post it on their Facebook page when new fabric arrives.

I saw several fabrics that I thought would look really nice on the back of charity quilts. I especially need the butterflies - especially the one the navy! I have camo, some gray and red and some brown with hearts. What I found myself needing was something with blue or just colorful fabric. I even ordered 2 bolts of the navy butterflies.

I figured I will use about 5 meters per quilt (it is 60” wide). That way, each bolt will only do about 12 of the large quilts I’m wanting to make as the bolts are 50 meters long.

Here’s what I ordered:

I got them a few days ago now. But I just now opened the packages because I wasn’t actually ready to use the fabric or even deal with them when I got them - I was knee deep in another project.

My husband met the truck driver outside and brought them into the sort of mud room we have.

I ordered 4 bolts because I pay for the shipping and they normally package two bolts together at a time. You pay the same for shipping whether it is one or two bolts - so I bought 4 bolts so I’d pay for shipping 2x. Shipping one of those BIG bundles cost me 22 zl, or $5.88, I’m not complaining!

I finally brought them in the house to check to make sure I got what I ordered.

So far, so good!

They have each bolt wrapped in a nice, heavy duty plastic bag that I like to reuse, so unwrapped the white outer bag carefully. The word written on the outer bag is “Opoka” and that is our nonprofit organization here in Poland.

This is how I’m using those bags from these fabrics. I fill up the batting scraps which I then can give away!

Yes! Everything was just as I ordered!

I prefer a pattern that isn’t directional, but I liked the farm fabric enough that I got it anyway!

Someone needs to teach the original manufacturer the difference between “farm” and “jungle”. :) I think this fabric is originally coming from the Czech Republic, though I’m not positive on that.

Good name for the blue fabric! I wanted two bolts of this simply because my charity quilt recipients mostly do prefer a darker back - so the navy is a great background. However, I don’t always have a choice as the most common background printed here is white. I’m sure it is the cheapest to produce!

This butterfly fabric has a lot of white in the background - that is a minus - but the design was cute - so I got it in spite of that!

I only bought the farm one now because I was afraid they’d run out of it by the time I wanted to get it. It’s cute and great for boys or girls! I won’t use it for the big quilts - it’s too perfect for my children’s quilt backings!

This big big butterfly was just for fun. I will have no problem using these 50 meters up!

Next thing - I’ll start tearing these navy ones up into 100” long and sewing them together to make wide and long pieces for my double size quilt tops!

And that’s it for today. I’m off to sew!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this! Stay safe!

Be sure to check out what my sis has for you in the store here!

Here’s one of the beauties we have!
