I’ve not been able to schedule another give-away. Well, I probably could - but I’m not. I am willing to wait until I can advertise freely and don’t have to worry about distance, not having too many people in the building at once, etc. I’ve advertised on my Facebook page that if they hear of someone who needs or can use a quilt to let me know. I can, to a limited degree, arrange to meet people with quilts.

But…

Last week I had a lady contact me about three quilts for 3 different men.

I picked out three quilts for 3 men. We’ll arrange to meet (we already met as you can see) and she can pick them up. This lady works with a lot of needy people, and it’s not the first time she’s gotten quilts from me - she’s a real angel to those she helps!

On Sunday I had a young lady contact me about 3 more quilts - for two ladies and a child.

I also gave away three on Sunday afternoon - to a different lady and her 2 children.

Remember how I like to get pretty or nice backings because so many people here like to use the backings as the front? Well, yes I do. I thought maybe showing you what I mean might be the best for you to see.

Pictures are a way for you to see and understand better. I’m not exaggerating. I’ve seen many, many people, when checking out which quilt they want, check the back.

The mom (of the quilts I gave away on Sunday) sent me a photo of her two daughters saying thank you for their quilts! (She gave me permission to use their pic in this blog post. We have to get permission these days here in the EU.)

But notice the girls - I especially had to smile at the girl on the right. She’s got the back side of the quilt out!

Before I go any farther in this blog post - if you have participated in this outreach of charity quilts, please consider yourself also the recipient of these hearts and thanks. Many, many of you have helped either with encouragement, quilt tops, blocks or even cash. Consider all these grateful people as thanking you - and not just me!

I also have one here of a nicely pieced quilt and the mom sent me this photo - with the backing up in the baby’s bed. She was just showing me how she used the quilt! I told Mike, “She’s got the back side up!” Oh my! It’s this one -

I went quickly through some of my photos from give-ways that I’ve done in the last few years and found photos where people posed with the quilt - back side showing. It just makes me smile. They obviously like the back!!!

I’ve mentioned it before….and while I know the work is on the front side - truthfully - as long as one of the sides is appreciated, that is great. All cool! I’ve come to grips with the idea that once you give away a quilt, it’s gone. It’s theirs to do with as they wish.

I know that many years ago now I made my dad a John Deere quilt and he preferred the back to the front (so did I)! This was before I started taking pictures of my finished quilts in any sort of organized method, so sadly I don’t have good pictures of it. The quilt, though worn, was still in FL last time I visited, however. I’ll try to get a photo next time we go.

Much of this is cultural. In Poland people usually use duvet covers/duvets.

More often than not the covers have two sides that are different. Let me show you. I have recently purchased several of these sets - and I will show you what I mean. What this means is that when people buy a duvet cover set, each side is equal in importance.

People use one side, get tired of it and they can easily flip it to the other side. No difference. No offense. No big deal. So, I have to believe that this same mentality has transferred to quilts.

Why not?

This is what they are used to.

So…when I look for backings for my charity quilts now - I do look for something interesting! I want to like it and make it appealing to the average person. Those includes animals, scenes or something colorful. I prefer more color rather than less color. I prefer a design over a solid or a blender.

Here is what I have. My selection is pretty good at the moment. But once you start making 10 at a time, the fabric gets used up fast!

I do have several “brown friendly” backings so that I have plenty to go with my Big Fabric Haul tops - as I have A LOT of those to do!

I know. Some of you are rolling your eyes at my talking about all these things. You’ve heard it before. But I know to at least a few of you, it’s new. And it is for those I write this post. Plus, I kind of like looking at all those amazing fabrics I have for backings. It’s a good reminder to myself of what I have!
