Cultural: Sidewalks!

Sidewalks! Communities in the states often have them - especially in planned neighborhoods.

But what my son noticed when he visited down in Florida, the areas where he was - no sidewalks!

We not only have sidewalks but we often have a combination bike/person sidewalk!

He wanted to go from my sister’s house to my mom’s house - he ended up walking through the grass along the road as it simply isn’t safe to walk on the road!

The two colors of the brick in the sidewalk indicates bike path/ people path.

I guess it just shows that people don’t walk all that much from place to place in the states, if our town in FL is any reflection of the rest of the US.

BUT here…we have sidewalks all over the place!

I drove to the grocery store in a neighboring town and got these photos on the way. They’ve built sidewalks all over our area - and people are very grateful! Cars often use part of the sidewalks to park on! :) For good or bad. Sometimes there is no other place to park, but they don’t want you blocking the sidewalk completely so people can still walk.

The sidewalk on the left here was built in the last couple of years.

This is also a nice sidewalk - and you can see the pedestrian sign that I about cut off in the photo.

So what about you? Are there lots of sidewalks where you live? What about those of you who don’t live in a city - but more of a small town? Let me know in the comments!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this! Stay safe!
