Cultural: Fall Weather in Poland

It is difficult for me to explain our fall weather. Why? Well, because it seems to vary so much from year to year and even day to day.

There was a time, since we’ve been in Poland (1994), when the whole months of September/October were gray and completely socked in with clouds. When it is like that, it is hard to say too much encouraging about the weather. All of this was a real shock to me when I first came to Poland because we came from sunny FL - 80 F weather, and landed in Poland where it was 45F. I remember being so cold - just couldn’t get warm. I also had a hard time with the darkness.

I used to read articles about beautiful fall days, kicking/playing in the leaves, etc. and I would think, “But we can’t do that - here - because when we have the leaves, the weather is already so depressing or too chilly to do that!”

However - it’s not that way now. Either I’ve just gotten used to it OR our weather has changed in the last 25 years. Now we often have pretty fall days. At least some. Yesterday morning we had a cool early morning but at about 10:45 am it was 51 F and sunny and bright. It was beautiful!

Oh…I suspect that a lot of the difference is that I’ve gotten used to the cool and dark weather but I do think some of it is that we have had a lot more pretty days than we used to have in September and October. I think it is both. :)

Let me show you our forecast.

For me, these are perfect fall temps. It’s great weather for working on these quilts. It also is cool enough so that it reminds me that some people really do NEED quilts to keep warm here in this country. They aren’t just for looks.

So, while this is a short one - this is just a little short post telling you that it’s not freezing yet! We officially have fall now - a couple of days ago. When it is 80-90F like it is in FL, it’s hard to believe that it is really fall. In Poland, it’s an easy thing to believe.

Oh, and I’m trying to hurry up and finish these charity quilts because I’d like to make a couple more fall quilts. I really like working on fall quilts during the fall months.

Rachael has lots of beautiful fall panels and we also have the Show0ff Fall quilt kit should such a quilt interest you.

While I’m at it - I might as well put them here - but here are my favorite FALL quilts that I’ve made (along with Show Off Fall - shown above).

Just click on the one you like for the free pattern.

(I’ve got a couple more tops done that I just need to get the pattern written!)

Have a great day wherever you are reading this! Thanks for coming along with me on my quilting/sewing journey!
