Where Have all the Quilts Gone?

If you haven’t figured it out - this week I’m featuring blog posts all about charity quilts!

I wanted to show where various quilts that I’ve made have ended up!

Most of these are charity quilts which have been sent or taken to these places. There are a couple of places particularly far off - and none of those had our label on them - for a reason. Those countries aren’t entirely tolerant of Christians and I didn’t want anyone to come to harm because of a label on a quilt.

There are multiple towns represented here all over our part of the world.

Here’s a bit of a close up of the part of the Polish map. Most of these are directly related to the Give-aways that we’ve held in Otwock. Some were donated last year through the Noble Packages outreach that we did.

Truthfully, I don’t really know all the places various quilts have ended up. I could mark more spots around Otwock as I know some have ended up in various villages around us - but I didn’t really feel up to doing that.

Within the last couple of years, I’ve actually made a couple of good contacts with people who are either social workers or who volunteer for organizations that look out for the needy. For example, one social worker recently called me and asked me for quilts for a lady and her children as they had escaped a bad situation with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Of course I said “Yes,” and met her at the church (that day) where she picked out quilts for the lady and her children.

Then a few days ago I had a lady write me who also works with the very needy - as a volunteer. She met me though Facebook and I’ve done a few things for her efforts. She asked me last year if I could donate some quilts to people in her area. She lives a little farther “out” than we are (from Warsaw).

She is a volunteer for the Noble Packages in her area and is doing interviews already for that. When I asked if the quilts needed to wait ‘til Christmas or do they need them now she said, “Now”. These last few days have been warmer, but it is scheduled to get back cool again.

I told her “Of course!”

She sent me the list for the two families. So I had the privilege of going to the building and finding the quilts for them.

Family 1 - I needed a quilts for a couple - 55+. a son, 16 years old, and 2 girls, 10 and 7.

Family 2 needed quilts for a mom, 52, a grandma, 84, and two teen girls, 15 and 14 years old.

This is what I picked out.

Family 1 - I decided that the couple would have the blue Jelly Roll quilt, the teen boy, the blue and brown as it has a cool back which he might prefer, and the two owl ones (Quick Strippies) were for the girls 10 and 7. The topmost quilt made of soft colors is for the wife of the couple figuring that often women get colder than men.

Family 2 - The mom’s, 52, is the top quilt, the grandma, 84, gets the second quilt with the 4 patches on point and the two teen girls will get the colorful one and the star quilt which are on the bottom. The dad has passed away (and I know this usually leaves this type of family in dire circumstances).

So today I gave away 9 more quilts - which means I really only gained a net of 1 this week in the building since I added 10 quilts earlier this week. That’s okay. Really. That’s what I’m here for - not collecting quilts! I told this volunteer that if she hears of any other needy people, to just let me know as I know she is vetting the families well.

I told her that I would gladly help if she heard of more.

I’m not just “making these charity quilts” to keep myself busy. As you know - the goal is to help people! I know that those of you who have helped me would be glad to see the information here! So…here’s to sharing information!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this! Thanks for coming along with me on my quilting/sewing journey!
