I had had bag of 2” strips and a 2.5” strips. Remember? Not very long ago I showed them.

I used up a lot of the 2.5” strips as the 9 patches in the middle of these blocks and I used the 2” strips around the edges of the blocks. As you can figure, I’m getting weary of this series - but I’m getting close to being finished now - so I’m okay. I’m not going to go “on hold” now - not with the end so close! I could actually ‘quit’ anytime as I’m down to about 1 box of pieces - and my goal had been 2.

With the 2” strips - I wanted those for the outer strips on the block, but none of my 2” strips were long enough - well, a few of them were, but not many. I decided to just sew them end to end and use that true scrappy piece of fabric to make the fabric long enough for the edges.

Anyway, back to the greens series -

This is what I started with when I started the series eons ago (that’s how it feels but it really wasn’t).

My biggest problem with this one is that I had had a problem with the sashing color. I had a plan on the Electric Quilt program, but I didn’t actually have fabric in my second-hand supplies in that color or really any shades in the ones I was considering.

I had started to cut up sashing in a dark pink/mauve, but I didn’t have enough of that, so I stopped cutting and reconsidered and decided that all the wishing in the world wasn’t going to make that fabric stretch into enough for all the sashings I needed for this quilt.

I then reconciled in my mind that I would be okay with this lavender sashing color. I had originally wanted something a bit darker, but I just didn’t have it in the colorways I was considering.

At the end, I’m actually satisfied with it and am glad it worked out this way.

The blocks are 11.5” and the sashings were cut at 3”.

I simply put the blocks together in rows and then put the rows together. The actual colors and shades of the frames in the blocks ended up being random. if there are a lot of those darks together - well, that just happened. Also, the green checked - I had more of that fabric than most of the others.

I made it wider by adding the leftover 2” strips on each side and then another 3” cut piece of that lavender.

And that is all. This one went together sorta fast. The outer border of the block with the 2” strip pieces took quite a bit longer than I thought it would. That’s because there was so much piecing involved. In the end, in spite of that actual scrappiness of the blocks, I really do like this. The lavender color worked well BOTH with the lighter colors and the darker ones.

Just as a review - this series is almost done. I still have three more “in the works” - a scrappy one using a lot of lights, my teal/other color one and probably one using bonus triangles. I may talk myself out of that last one but after I finish one more top, I’ll have all the bonus triangles I will have to work with and can see what I can do.

I am down to one box of greens!

And just as a review - here’s the series so far. I am so tickled that I’ve been able to focus on these in the last month or two. Things have happened pretty fast due to the ability to focus on this.

I am now starting to go through my upcycled fabrics and start thinking about backings for the 23 or so backings I need to make! That is really exciting to me, though - as 23 queen size backings will use up about 230+ yards of fabric - and this will really help me clear out the upcycleds I’ve had for quite a few years that I’ve not used yet. That is wonderful. Sometimes it is just time to clear things out and make room for something different!

Overall, I’m pleased with the variety of looks and feelings to these tops. While there are naturally repetitions to themes and types of blocks, I’ve worked at trying to make a variety of blocks and/or designs - always taking into consideration of what fabrics I had to work with.
