Up Greens #36 top finished - teal and pink - no name yet

I had determined to just go ahead and use up this teal tablecloth. It wasn’t all cotton - not sure what it was - but it must have had a bit of poly in it. It is a slubby fabric - meaning it had texture. We had used it on deputation in the early 90s when we went around from church to church. We laid out our things on top of it. I got so sick of it - and even now I can’t say I was entirely happy working with it. At that, it had a nice feel to the fabric and most of it was still in good shape.

But I decided to just use it and a hot pink to go with it. I know a lot of you suggested a coral. The problem is, I didn’t actually have a second-hand solid coral to go with it - though I was given a softer orange - sort of a peach. But if it had been aqua, I would have - or a seafoam green. But it wasn’t. I wanted an equally strong color for the design I had worked up.

This quilt ended up about 65”x78”.

The size was limited to the green teal I had. As it was I used it all up except for about 3 9.5” squares that I had some stains on it. I cut them down and threw away the section with stains and am done with it now. I can bind this one in that hot pink. I think that will be fun.

To make this quilt - I just cut the teal into 9.5” squares and then pieced chain blocks with the hot pink and used both teal and white as alternate colorations of those blocks. Why did I do some of the blocks with white? I can’t say exactly, except that I liked it better. There was no other reason than that.

I could have used all white 9 patches or all teal 9 patches - but when I laid it out in the Electric Quilt program, I preferred the mix coloration. It just made it more interesting.

Other than that, it’s a pretty straightforward quilt. On point. Not very big. No sashings. Only 2 borders. Very, very quick. Sometimes I forget how quick it is to make a lap size quilt after making so many queen sized ones. Plus this one had so many just plain blocks - that made it even faster than probably just about anything else I could have done.

Because the green was a bit thicker than the pink, the seams always wanted to go away from the green - never folding it back on itself. I did the best I could.

Now that I’ve gotten this one done - let me show you what I have left of the greens.

One full box! I have my eye on that striped fabric for bindings

As you can see - the lid shuts!

This much. Yes. That’s all. That’s a nice compact amount - especially compared to what I started with.

This is what I started with. Simply too many pieces for only one or two boxes.

I do have a couple of bags of 2.5” strips that are ready to go as bindings. But other than these pieces, it’s all designated. I am putting the solid green duvet covers back with the solids - as I had purchased them recently. I have cut up all the other leftovers and have thrown them into my strips baskets for this month. I am continuing to find some scraps in my sewing room - which was mostly ignored last year.

Pinwheels are made from bonus triangles from other quilts made earlier in the series.

I debated over and over about making one last quilt - using my bonus triangles - the ones created since the one I already made with a pinwheel center.

The problem is, I can’t find my baggie of them. I have no idea where they are. I am sure I will come across them somewhere, but for now I can’t find them.

I’m stumped.

The only bonus triangles I can find at the moment are my burgundy/green ones leftover from top #35. This means that all of the darks are burgundy - and as such, the top doesn’t look like it’s green at all.

And I’m just not feeling it right now.

I want to move on.

My goal has been met and that was to get my greens to a minimum of 2 boxes. I have done better than that - in getting them down to 1. I am ready to go.

#66 in my 2” series - called Bloomin’ Nines - free pattern here.

So, I am declaring this series over at 36!

I will throw my bonus triangles in with my other bags of them. Yes, I have bags of them! Not sure when I will get to them. Maybe someday. I did make one - remember that one? It’s here.

All the half square triangles used in this one are bonus triangles from other projects I’ve made. I’m pretty proud of it - the pattern is linked at the bottom of the photo.

This is the series now from start to finish - before I’ve quilted all of them.

I will now turn my focus to getting them quilted while I get to think about colors other than green for making other tops. I’m very excited about that! I’m not ready to go back into another Upcycled series right away. :) Certainly I would need to have all of these quilted and the patterns written before I would tackle another color. I really need to simply evaluate what I have - but at first guess, I think it would actually have to be pink. :)

(That is just in case some of you were going to ask.) I need to make some more 2.5” and 2” series quilt tops. Those are what I want to do now - although ‘need’ is too strong of a word.

And there you are! Thanks so much for coming along with me on this quilting journey with me! I appreciate your reading with me.

Oh - one last question -

Do you have a favorite of these 36 quilts/tops? If so - which one?

I’d love it if you put it in the comments below. I’ll ask again after I finish quilting all of them. (Quilting may change the look of some of them.)
