UP Greens #26 top finished - no name yet - suggestions appreciated
I worked on this top for several days - even a couple of weeks using various 1.5” strips which I cut from the upcycled greens which I have been cutting up. My bag of 1.5” strips is still pretty large. I keep adding to it- I suppose that’s why.
Here’s the block this one is made from. Once again - a quarter log cabin block. The block finishes at 8” once it is all sewn together.
I was fascinated with how “cool” the look was when I worked it up on the EQ program (Electric Quilt). I had some doubts as I was working on the blocks, but I am entirely satisfied with the finished top.
The only thing I was looking for as I chose the fabrics was enough contrast with the white background fabric so that the design would show up. I did use some kind of pale greens, but pretty much left out the greens I have in my boxes with a lot of white in the background. I’ll have to use them for something else.
There is a lot to be said for a quarter log cabin block. It gives you quite a few interesting variations when you put them together.
Here’s what it looked like without the border.
But I wasn’t done with it at that stage. I wanted it to float in the middle of a white border.
So here it is - all finished (as a top) and yes, I really do like it. When I worked with these upcycled fabrics like this, I’m working with a variety of fibers and combinations, and often they are very soft.
I can starch - and sometimes do - but still I have some squishy parts - but I saw how after I quilted another from this series that somehow looked like this before appeared like this - and it turned out fantastic.
So I am quite pleased with how this one turned out. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised as it was quite a bit like the one on the EQ layout.
And just because we actually cleaned up Christmas stuff earlier this week - before Three King’s Day - I have a nice clean living room (and love it!) and so here’s an overview - with the top right in the middle of the floor. It pretty much fills it up.
And there you go. I’m trying to focus on these tops - and get them whipped out quickly. My mind is reasonably clear and I’m able to focus. For that I’m grateful!
Once again - the series from the beginning. I still have three more I am actively working on.
If you have any suggestions on a name for this latest one, I’d love to hear it!
