Quilted Twins

UP Greens #31 top finished - no name yet

I actually worked on the checkerboard blocks in this quilt BEFORE I made the last quilt top I showed you in this series (Double 9 patch).

I had some real dregs of 1.5” strips which is why I decided to make that last one. I had already used up the best in this quilt top. Let me show you the blocks.

My goal was to make a block - an 8x8 block - trying to make it ‘shaded’ - using only my pieces that I had in this series. I had pulled out the blue for use here and tried to find my lightest blues. I used a slightly darker blue for the darkest corner and tried to use the darkest greens I had. It wasn’t always perfect, however. Here’s the block as it is laid out.

I know that when you make an asymmetrical block like this, it turns into an interesting quilt when you make a lot of them.

The layout on the Electric Quilt looks like this -

Here’s the top -

I did try to make the quilt block an approximate “shaded” - and not a hard and fast rule about where the shading stops and starts. This makes it different for each sphere.

Here is a bit of a close up for the center of that top.

I really do like this one and yes, it was a LOT of work!

I would love some name ideas for this one. Any ideas? Please put it in the comments below if at all possible!

These blocks did end up being large - they are 12.5” before sewing into the top. That helps make a top large ‘fast’ - although ‘fast’ and this quilt really shouldn’t be used in the same sentence.

Here is the series of UP Greens so far. I’ve quit trying to predict how many I will make. I have already far surpassed what I thought I would do with this series. I thought it was going to be about 15 quilts! LOL.

Thank you so much for coming along on this journey with me! I do appreciate you!
