Update on the Boxes of Quilts - It’s time

Most of you realize that we were sent a lot of quilts which were donated by you all - in fact a total of 110 boxes - 31 boxes via FedEx which we received individually via various couriers

The last of the first 31 boxes - received the same day as the BIG shipment left FL.

and 79 boxes in one swoop via UPS and a big truck.

The BIG delivery was of 79 boxes. This is most of them. (We put a few in the house to begin working on right away.)

Of those boxes, we have opened all but 31 boxes. So, 79 boxes have been opened and matched up with pillowcases.

As we open the boxes I take inventory - making note of quilts, baby quilts, pillowcases, fleece/microfiber, etc. In the end, we are keeping track of everything.

I wanted to show you.

I screen shot the document so you could see.

The yellow column is the number of quilts (regular ones). At some point there is a decision to make about small quilts - are they baby or are they a toddler quilt? Depends on my mood. :) Definitely if you included a pillowcase, they become a toddler quilt as I’m not including pillows with the baby sets.

As I sit here and write this, I do have about 3 boxes of quilts and pillowcases ready to package up - hopefully on the day you are reading this. I’ve shown Lena and Ira how to pick out pillowcases now - so today they matched up 3 boxes worth and tomorrow we can hopefully package those up and then get some more boxes ready for early next week.

Lena and Ira are picking out pillowcases here.

I am probably going to start putting two pillowcases in each package from now on. We have some amazing flannel pillowcases, but I don’t want to only give a flannel one - esp. for hot weather, so I will probably start off by putting one of those in with each quilt as we can until they are used up and then go ahead and work on throwing in a second pillowcase with the others.

This post isn’t really about how much we are doing - but rather, about the progress with the boxes of the quilts.

As you can see on the database, so far I’ve opened boxes and found 2062 quilts, over 700 baby quilts and over 3600 pillowcases! That’s simply amazing! I do have a large pile of baby quilts to process, but I can do that on a day when I don’t have as much help or if I end up waiting on pillows to be delivered. The baby ones are easy to do as I put a quilt, a hooded towel, a flannel receiving blanket and a package of wipes. Then, if you all have included other things such as crocheted blankets or fleece, or something nice like that, we’ll throw those in as well to make each set nicer.

Anyway, with only 31 boxes left to process, we are delighted! I’m hoping that we can pick up the pace now that I have a couple of Ukrainian ladies who have cars and can come and help. Lena was gone to Ukraine for about 3 weeks in the last month and I just met Ira last Sunday - so hopefully she will continue to help. She definitely wants to.

Thank you again for all you have given! People really love these sets!

Thanks again for coming along on this journey with me!
