Review of Ukraine Efforts - Once Again
This week we did quite a lot. It also turned hot again for a few days which means the shopping is miserable. Not all the stores are nice and cool and standing in lines in a hot store is not my idea of any kind of nice way to spend a morning! In fact, if I can figure out a way around it, then that is what I will do. :)
In summary - my husband did take a trip to Ukraine with fabric and quilts midweek. And I worked on quilts with help! A lot.
Let’s review.
Monday -
Early Monday we headed to Radom - a town about 1.5 hours and bought some fabric directly from the manufacturer/importer - at the cheapest possible prices.
Later in the day Mike and Josiah went to the airport to pick up a lady, Rachel, who was coming in from the states to stay here for a few months. She’s a missionary in Ukraine, but naturally, right now, she’s not going back there. The area where she was working is right where they are being bombed. So she will stay at the church and help out here in Poland with Ukrainian ladies and children as she finds opportunity.
Tuesday -
I received quite a few boxes of things I ordered for packing up quilts. Then in the afternoon, we packed up the trailer with quilts and fabric.
Wednesday -
As the group (my husband, the lady who just came in on Monday, and Josiah, our guest) went to Ukraine on Wednesday, Lena came over and helped me pack up some vinyl quilt bundles. We then took them and put them in the same room at the church we had cleaned out a bit the day before as we packed up the trailer.
Thursday
Ira and Lena came over to help in the afternoon. The day was HOT so we opted to just keep the bundles in our basement until the weather turns a bit cooler. We did quite a lot.
Friday
This morning Ira and Lena came over. Since it was still quite hot, we opted again to keep the quilts in the house so we didn’t have to go in and out, in and out of the house, losing the cool air in the house to the open doors. The last picture here shows how full the basement room is now. The first picture shows a bunch of boxes that were delivered (by the tree) - full of pillows. We used all but 3 of them in the processing of the quilt packs on Friday.
Saturday
This morning we had a new helper, Rachel, who arrived on Monday afternoon) - and Lena. Josiah is in the picture as well - and we worked hard for a couple of hours again. The room in the basement is about full.
Sunday
I went ahead and packed up some baby sets because I have been throwing baby things into the corner all week so I have had quite a pile.
We met some people who want to take about 50 bundles today to Lviv to a refugees there. Actually the contact is Ira’s husband’s friend. (Ira is the lady shown above on the red with the red blanket.)
And there you are. It is hard to remember to keep taking pictures because “The pictures all look the same” - of the shopping, making the packs, etc.
So, the process is pretty much all the same and the photos tend to look similar to each other.
But they aren’t totally. I do try to take pictures to remind myself of what I did all week! Otherwise, I probably wouldn’t even remember what we did which day!
And FYI - I am now down to only 19 BOXES left to open! We are 83% finished!
(Well, almost - We still have to pack things up once the boxes get opened but once the boxes are opened, it feels like it is almost done. Psychologically anyway.)
There you are - my report.
Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey! We appreciated you SO much. Without all your financial help and of course, the quilts - we would never have been able to do so much.
