Weekly Ukraine Efforts

This past week my husband did NOT go to Ukraine. He stayed home. We took care of some things that needed to be done - at least a few things. I worked in the garden a bit and tried to stay cool. But beyond that, here’s what I did with regards to Ukraine.

We are by no means “finished” - but this is just a little break. It is good for me to give the local stores a chance to restock and regroup before I go in and clean them out again. :) Actually I don’t like to really clean them out of any thing unless it has been sitting for a while. I want to always leave things for the locals who might need necessaries.

Monday

I met up with a Ukraine family - that actually consists of two families who are living together and bought them some groceries as well as took them some large quilts - they needed two more. I had given them 4 quilts (there are 6 living people living there) a few days before. I also took one of the ladies a suitcase as that had been requested. Lidl had had them on Saturday morning so I got up early (6:30 am) and snagged a couple before they sold out.

Tuesday

I made up 49 baby sets from the baby quilts you’ve sent over. These sets consist of a a baby quilt, hooded towel, receiving blanket, and a set of wipes - plus anything else I might have from you all including burp cloths or crocheted baby blankets or something else interesting like a large receiving handmade blanket from you all.

Tuesday I also received a pair of sandals for Sveta - the shorter lady shown above - hers were almost falling apart. I’m not sure if you’ve actually ever had shoes you were wearing break on you when out in public - but I have. It’s awful.

Wednesday

We received all the vinyl cases needed for packing up the rest of the quilts (estimated).

Thursday

I packed up another 50 (approximately) baby sets as I had enough of the hooded towels and receiving blankets to do so, having received them on Tues. and Wed. I had had a very large stack of these small quilts just taking up space and I needed to get them packed up so I could move forward with the regular sets.

Friday

I made up a lot of sets. LOTS. I worked like a turtle because it was hot - and I didn’t feel very energetic. But I kept plodding. I worked by myself today because I wanted to watch some baseball games or listen to You Tube videos - neither of which I can do when I have help. But mostly I felt like I needed to do it by myself because I had such a mess. It seemed like people would just fall over the stuff. I needed to work down the amounts somewhat and move some things on out before I have other bodies trying to maneuver in the room. By the end of the day I did feel like I had worked some of the clutter down. I’ll get help this week.

I separated out 50 of these vinyl bags with small quilts for children 2-6 and they will go to Ukrainian children here in Poland.

Then I took all the ones I had packed up (minus the ones for the children as someone will come and get them on Monday) to church. I had some help for packing them in the room - Lena and her daughter, Angelina. That made it fast as I only had the car load.

Saturday

I took over two power banks for the families show above and a pair of sandals for the young lady shown in the photos with the suitcase which I bought on Saturday. She didn’t have a pair.

It turned out that they are too small, so she gave them to her aunt, so I’ve bought another pair for her. :(

And that’s it for this week. I want to say it was quiet - and it was. It’s been hot so doing a lot of shopping isn’t what I wanted to be doing just for the sake of shopping. :) I do get tired of it. A few days off from shopping generally rejuvenates me.
