The Boxes Arrived!

I am pretty sure that at least some of you realize that boxes arrived - esp. those who are on Facebook as I put a live video on it. Let me share that here! I think even if you don’t have Facebook you should be able to see it.

Thank YOU ALL SO MUCH for all the donated quilts and help! It is amazing. You all are a testimony to God’s grace and people’s willingness to help these people in and from Ukraine! Your hearts are so generous - and your hands and pocketbooks too!

Thank you so much! Without all these donations, there wouldn’t be these boxes!

We had gotten an email on Friday where we heard that the load had cleared customs and the lady told the delivery company “Deliver the load!”!

Since that was Friday, I figured that it would come on Monday - as they didn’t want to keep that big of a load anywhere - as it isn’t making them any money - either stuck in a warehouse or at customs. it is definitely to their advantage to have it delivered.

So, we got it! Yes, we did! At 1:04 pm according to the clock on our car (we were going to go to lunch), Mike got a call from the delivery driver saying he would be here in an hour. That was fine - we had time (he had called Mike a couple of times this morning). We had asked him to deliver to our house instead of the church as we have a better place to keep them out of the elements than at church. It wasn’t a problem for him.

So, about 2 pm I went up to the driveway area just kind of hanging out by the road as it is easy for people to miss our house. With a big truck it’s a bigger deal than with a car. Sure enough, not long after 2 pm, I saw a truck slowing down right near our driveway. I realized this must be our load and I signaled to him that this was it. By this time, Mike was coming out the door of the house and across the yard. (I didn’t want to wait in the house as I didn’t want to miss any of it!) I think the guy was astonished that I would wait for him by the road. He got backed in down our driveway and then the unloading happened.

To make a long story short, we put most of them in the tent - which is our garage. The ones that fell off the first pallet (our trial run using Mike’s tractor) we moved to the tent individually or I put them by the door of the house so we could take them inside to being taking inventory/working on them.

Let me show you pictures. I took a lot of them. I’ll caption them for you.

I took a few short videos as well - mostly because I wanted to show Rachael - but I’ll share a few of them with you.

This first one shows how the first set of boxes fell over - no still shots because as soon as it happened I went for the hand cart and started moving them.

These next videos show the driver helping Mike and seeing Mike put them in the tent. The tractor didn’t come with those fork lift arms - Mike built them. Also, with all that weight of the boxes on the trailer, there was no traction if the driver didn’t stand there. In the past Mike said he has used a motor.

We are so grateful to have all of these already. It seemed really fast - and now we can move on.

We want to say a special thanks to Scott Fortunoff of Jaftex Fabrics for their help in getting these to us. I can’t say it enough - this couldn’t have happened this well without them. I’ll say more about that in a different blog post, however.

Mike did way too much lifting and such for his hurting leg/back. Let’s pray he recovers quickly.

And there you are! Rachael told me to “get a lot of photos”. So I did. I hope you’ve enjoyed them!

If you are new to the blog - and just now finding this - you should go back and read where Rachael wrote about sending these boxes. That blog post is found here.

This is the end of the “shipping” part from the USA to Poland - but now the ‘rest of the story’ happens - from Poland to Ukraine. I’ll be working on these regularly now.
