Cultural: A Visit to Czersk - local castle ruins

After a couple of years of sitting at home quietly minding our own business, this year we’ve been blessed with a lot of guests!

Czersk is a local site which is castle ruins about 30 minutes from us. During the summer they tend to have a lot of activities on Saturdays and Sunday afternoons. I realized that we hadn’t exposed our guest, Josiah, to many things here in Poland. It is hard when our lives are so involved with other things to try to remember to give guests some cultural experiences.

Sunday after church we headed in our two vehicles with some guest from Ukraine and two Americans. The whole group of us was 8 - my husband and I, Josiah, Rachel, and then Lena, Lina, Katia (Kate), and Tanya.

We walked around the grounds and checked out the various booths.

Josiah tried on some chain mail armor.

I checked out a lady who was showing some weaving. However, she was taking a long time to set up and didn’t seem to be too sure of herself, so I kept leaving and then coming back.

Overall, we walked around and our guests got to see the ruins. They walked up the steps and got to take pics from way up high.

Here is a cellar - where people were thrown when being punished.

Some overall photos. I tried to avoid taking close ups of people.

This was called a family picnic and the weather was gorgeous. When they don’t have the various booths, it’s very quiet here and fewer people.

The object of this picnic was to show people like us a little bit about life during the middle ages. And life was certainly more basic than anything we experience!

Overall, we spent a couple of hours there, wandering around, taking some photos, trying to learn something. Then we went to lunch at McD’s. I told them we were having a clash of cultures!

It was nice to get out of the house and do something in the community!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
