Quilted Twins

Baseball Post Season Is Here -

I know most of us probably aren’t avid sports fans. It’s just how it is. We are often fans of whatever our family is into, however, even if we don’t actually like it all that much.

When I was a kid I liked to play softball. Sadly, since that time, I’ve hardly played at all. I wanted to play in college, but practice always coincided with my work schedule.

But.

But I do like to watch baseball - also something I’ve learned in the last 10 years or so. I didn’t have a tv growing up or even since we’ve been married, so until the internet got where we could get access to an mlb account, that wasn’t a choice.

Anyway, my two teams are Tampa Bay Rays and the Toronto Blue Jays.

I know.

Most of you don’t care.

Both teams are in the Wild Card series.

But since we don’t have a tv subscription, we can’t watch them live. I could listen to the radio, though - and did - at least til I fell asleep.

All of the teams I thought might win the first round lost last night. Oh my. I found out when I woke up this morning as our time is different than the zones where the games are being played. At least they have 2 more chances to win their respective series.

It’s a good thing I’m not a gambler, huh?

I wonder if there is a prize for being the worst guesser?

Anyway - my sis does have some cool sports fabrics.

First of all, she does have a lot of team sports licensed fabrics - various sports.

As for Tampa Bay Rays or Blue Jays - just click on the photo and it will go to the fabric shown.

But she also has a few baseball themed panels.

Here they are.

I am sure some of you have grandkids or kids or nephews and nieces who like baseball.

And if they aren’t baseball fans - maybe they are football fans!

Here are two panels she has featuring football.

But she also has some very cool football bundle packs - featuring Dan Morris fabrics. From left, they are a 16 pc bundle pack, 15 pc bundle pack, and 14 pc bundle pack. If you click on the photo, it will take you to the page where you can see more pics.

Your football fan in your life will love you forever (!!!) for a quilt made from these fabrics! Well, actually, I hope he/she will love you forever whether or not you make them a quilt.

And just say you are not from the USA where the term “football” actually means a game you play by using your foot to kick the ball - here are some soccer panels she has.

Anyway -

Back to my prediction - as much as I might prefer one of my two teams I’m actually cheering for to win - I expect the Astros to play the Dodgers in the World Series in a few weeks. I guess we’ll see how close I get. Here’s the paper my husband gave me to fill out.

While I could wish for the Tampa Bay Rays to go all the way to the World Series and win it, I’m trying to be realistic here - they just haven’t been playing that well this year. Same with the Blue Jays.

For those of you who don’t know - there are several rounds of playoffs - and then finally at the end of the month/beginning of November - is the World Series - which should rather be called the MLB Playoff Finals as it is a bit presumptive to call it the World Series since the rest of the world isn’t participating. Anyway…

One more thing…

Two more Fiskars mats - about 36”x24” I think they are. I ordered two in hopes that they would send them flat and not roll them.

I got my new cutting mats. I’ve been ordering like crazy again for Ukraine since my husband is going again next week and in the middle of all that, I got this package.

Just in case you are curious, each one cost me 209 PLN or $41.89. Yikes. That’s a lot.

But I did it anyway - because the mat to me is important and when I have a mat that has a lot of little cuts in it - well, I don’t get nice, clean cuts. I use up a mat every year or so. I know. Others seem to have theirs last for years.

I haven’t had any success with the so-called cleaning of them or restoring, or whatever. I’ve tried. I decided that unless I could actually sand down the top, expecting something that has little lines cut into it to suddenly not have them was an exercise in futility. I’ve done the bath thing before with others and the only thing I got was a wet soapy mat and big mess in the bathroom.

The back side of my latest mat is fine, though, so when I just need to make small cuts that where I don’t actually use the lines but instead use a ruler, I can just flip it over and use it. Many times, however, I do use the lines in inches on the mat. (Horrors, I know). I am working on a top now that uses 9.5” sashing strips. I used the mat to measure those. Cutting smaller amounts - that’s fine. The back side of these is cm which I don’t use. I should find someone who would like to use it, huh? Maybe I will. I will usually just wear out both sides and then relegate it to a hidden spot in the house figuring I can use it for the bottom of a bag or something.

Sigh.

Anyway - have a great day wherever you are reading this!

Thanks for coming along with me on my journey!
