January 2023 Strips Cutting Report
Yes, I’m starting this again.
This month I got a lot more serious about cutting. I realized I had collected 5 bags of things that needed to be cut up and I was taking a very easy-going attitude about getting these under control. As a result, obviously, I was making backwards progress. I told myself I had to do more this month so I started cutting an hour a day.
Since I only started this about 10 days ago, that means I cut about 10-12 hours, I think it was or something like that anyway. I did get it back down to the last bag - but the one that is left is quite large. So we’ll see how long it takes to get back down to 0 bags.
I’m not sure I can ever get there, but I will continue to try to do so. Obviously as I finish quilts and trim the backings off, I get a lot more. I keep thinking I’m going to do better about keeping up. But I always have something else I want to do instead of dealing with these strips as soon as I cut them off!
Sigh.
But I keep trying.
Anyway, here are the totals -
2.5” - 13.58 lbs!! Yeah!
2” - 7.39 lbs.!
1.5” - 3.42 lbs.
I told you I did work at this month! I really did!
And since this is the first month, my very modest chart looks like this right now.
Let’s compare to last year’s chart.
Then, my totals since I started.
Once again - let’s think about how much these are worth. The 2.5” strips are the equivalent of 13 strips rolls (at least). If we discount the regular price of $35-40 each to only $10 - that’s the equivalent in weight to a minimum of $130 worth of fabric in this width alone!
So…I’m feeling pretty excited about that.
The stuff to be cut up that is left is one BIG bag - like a 30 gallon trash bag - so I will tackle that an hour every day for the next few days to see if I can work that down to being done as well.
I wish I had a really exciting blog post for you - but it’s not. It’s a report.
As I’ve mentioned before, I do these to encourage you should you need it, but MOSTLY to make myself trim as I know I’m going to do a report. :) I’m human.
The very fact of having to do a report makes me not want to be embarrassed by very small numbers. I do that often enough as it is, but this month I didn’t have any excuse. Not really. My goal is to have a 0 for any given month because I’ve finally caught up. :) But that also means I’m not finishing up quilts, in that case as I always trim up the extra backing fabric once trimmed off the quilt.
Thanks for coming along with me on this journey! I appreciate you!
