Red/White/Blue Basket Weave Update!
Wow. I can’t believe it has been so long since my last update (June 12) of this top. It does feel like forever ago now that I did this much of it.
But it is time to get back to it and add some more rows to this red/white/blue simple rail fence on point quilt.
It’s a simple 7 rail rail-fence block. Since I’m using 1.5” strips on it - they are only 7” finished in the quilt.
However, I’m only aiming to do about a 60x80” top so that it would qualify for a Quilt Of Valor if I wanted to give it to that program. I guess I’m feeling bad because in our part of Florida the local parks say the people can’t afford to make the quilts anymore. I know that long armers probably are tired of being asked to quilt them for free! :)
Anyway, I wanted to see if I could squeeze out some nice tops without costing much out of hand. This one is coming right from the strips bags - my 1.5” ones. It’s still rather large. Actually because lately I’ve been working on 2.5”, that makes sense.
Anyway, to be more specific, here are the blocks:
And here is the layout of the smaller top. I could continue to make a larger top like this, but I will break my cycle of large tops from my scraps and make this one a large lap or single European.
This is what a larger layout would look like -
Anyway, just like last time, the process is the same - find and cut red and blue strips - 1.5”x7.5”. And white.
Then sew them into blocks.
Once I have a few of these blocks together, make strips and then add it on.
I had put this one aside a while ago…shockingly. It was quite hot the first couple of days I got back into working with this - so I had to wait til the weather turned cooler to do the pressing I needed to do.
I had to cut up strips, make the blocks, sew them into rows, put the rows into position and then sew them all together.
So, this is where I am now.
It’s very clean and simple looking.
So now I’m getting to where I am half finished - but actually I’m over half finished because I have all these things cut and partially put together.
So, I will sew together these other strips that I have cut up already.
So hopefully I can get this worked up and finished before too long! This one is so simple and relatively quick that there is really no reason - except that it is so tedious and actually almost ‘boring’.
So here’s the update.
Enjoy!
I do think that it won’t be over a month til the next edition of this top.
Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey!
