Hello all you American friends,

First of all-

The store in Dade City is not open today. The ladies need to spend some time with family today so it is closed.

However, we are open on line! You can order 24/7 and we will get it in the mail very quickly, or hold for pickup!

I’ve gone over the patriotic quilts I’ve done before - I just did that not long ago, so I don’t want to do that again right now.

But I did want to mention that I’ve been pulling a lot of my red and blue 2.5” strips and putting them to the side so I can make up some scrappy tops that might work for QOV. I’m not sure, though - I suppose I remain unconvinced that it is necessary.

I heard from my sis that there was at least one trailer park there in the Dade City area that wasn’t going to do any more due to the cost.

I do know that I don’t want to take all of my red and blue fabrics out of my strips bags because I like to use red and blue along with other colors.

So, I thought, as many quilt tops as I make, if I could slip in a top for QOV (one that I think is really nice), then I might find a place to donate - or at least finish it and find a veteran to give it to.

This is kind of the idea that I had - it wouldn’t take a tremendous amount of time on my part. It is the ribbon star block on point with colorful side setting triangles with white (in contrast to the beige). It takes 18 blocks.

The other idea was the simple ribbon star block not on point with a cool border idea. This one only takes 12 blocks but of course the border is a fair bit of work. While I didn’t draw it up in a variety of colors, it is a great place to use up a lot of my patriotic smaller pieces.

I already made a sort of patriotic quilt for my SIL and he’s only been in the Air Force for a few years. It was a free pattern I found on line. I had wanted to use some of this super cool Air Force fabric that we had in the store.

Well, the airplane fabric that is in the center isn’t - those are just vintage planes but the outer fabrics that surround the center blocks is Air Force fabric.

Anyway- for some reason I brought over some patriotic fabric to Poland.

Why? I’m not sure, but I’ve decided that I possibly could use it up this way. It seems a kind of waste to make up Americana quilts for Polish people - even though I’m sure some would like them. I guess I just feel like for them it would be a curiosity, but for a veteran, it would be truly appreciated for the meaning associated.

So there you are.

Today in Poland, it’s the fourth of July!

That comes after the third and before the fifth. In other words, it’s nothing special - just a nice summer day!

Obviously they don’t celebrate the signing of the Declaration of Independence by the Founding Fathers in Poland.

Maybe someone does, but the government doesn’t.

:)

So if you celebrate today, enjoy!

We will probably not do too much today except maybe have a grill. My husband is very busy getting ready to go to Central Asia to teach at a camp so we won’t go anywhere.

I know at least some of you read here and aren’t Americans - so you are in a similar situation as we are - it’s not a special day or holiday where you are.

So, no matter whether you celebrate or not, have a great day!
