Quilted Twins

One of the "Projects" that I Found

Some of the cut off pieces once I’ve trimmed the crumby ‘made fabric’.

Some of you reading this know that lately I’ve been working on going through at least most of the sewing room as it was piled high and deep with things that had been thrown in there in the last months. Well, I came across a pile of small scraps that were nature themed.

They were actually leftovers from THIS quilt - which I really liked. (I gifted it.).

I had wanted to make up a crumb quilt with the leftovers. So, when I came across these pieces once again, this time I decided to just “do it”.

That saying, I started to just sew those pieces together in a various ways just to make “made fabric” so I could cut up 4.5” squares out of them.

I was able to get 90 , 4.5” squares out of those pieces.

I just decided to sash them with 1” strips and make a 9x10 layout and add a couple of borders and call it done. It won’t be big enough really for a regular charity quilt - so here it is. One little project done that I had wanted to do - for a few years now. I’m not sure what I will do with it.

It finishes about 60”x65”

Do I like it?

It’s okay.

It’s underwhelming. What could I have done differently to make it better? Two things. I should have used a dIfferent color for the sashing as I used some of that off white/cappuccino color in the blocks themselves. I also could have/should have (maybe - still debatable) used wider sashing (and maybe an 8x12 or 8x11 layout) - maybe 2” cut or 2.5” instead of the 1.5” cut I used. Still not sure about that. But it would give the eye more rest from those busy blocks.

I do like the border. I like the idea that I tried to make something from those crumbs because I really thought somehow something magical would happen. LOL.

I do have a short series of crumbs/strings quilts that I made - I’ll show those here below. With some of these I used paper tape to sew on - in various sizes and in some I just made squares. The last one isn’t yet finished - somewhere, sometime I’ll uncover those pieces and finish that top.

Anyway - this is just a little report about a small top I made today - after making the blocks yesterday and this morning. I’m glad I made it - but a bit conflicted about a few things. However, due to the many things going on in my life, I shall put this one behind me and move on. I’ll take the top to the long arm room and put it in a pile there.

It’s good enough to quilt.

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey. Have a great day wherever you are reading.
