May 2023 Strips Cutting report

These months are just flying by!

I had gotten some boxes from the states in early May that I shipped to myself - (I think it was) - maybe it was in April - and I’m trying to finish trimming up all the scraps I shipped to myself. Silly me. While I was in FL in 2021 I simply didn’t know what to do with them - but I didn’t want to just toss them into the trash! I mean, seriously, what was I supposed to do with them? Mom doesn’t want me trashing up her house with scraps! It’s bad enough that I’ve taken a multitude of quilts there when I go!

Anyway- I devoted a half hour a day for quite a few days to get this much. I felt like I didn’t have a lot of this and that s to trim up from years ago but it seems like I always manage to find more scraps somewhere to work with. Even as I thought I would have completely caught up this month, I found another partial bag of things to deal with in my sewing room. AND, of course, as I finish up charity quilts, which has started again, I’ll be make more cut offs to work with.

It doesn’t really matter where I keep getting these scraps to cut up, though, does it? I did this much!

Here are the results.

2.5” - 6.5 lbs.

2” - 3.74 lbs.

1.5” - 1.76 lbs.

This gives me totals for this year to date -

And these totals added to the others from other years makes these totals.

Now these totals are actually mind boggling, are they not? I think they are anyway. If you just round up the numbers - that is almost 1000 lbs. of strips I’ve cut since I started keeping track! Wow.

I know fabric is heavy, but still….here is a photo of 1000 lbs. of clothing. Now thankfully I do not have 1000 lbs. of strips sitting around because I am trying to use them!

I am regularly using 2.5” strips on bindings and have made over 80 2” strips quilts and not a few 2.5” ones. I have files on my computer where I keep them all. I’m now working on more 1.5” ones - gotta keep using all these strips up!

Anyway, have a great day wherever you are reading this.

Thanks so much for coming along on this journey!
