Inventory of Charity Quilt Tops in the Church Building - Wow!

I told myself I could go to the room in the church building and take an inventory of my tops that I have there. I also want to bring a variety of tops back to the house so that I can begin to match up backings with the tops for January charity quilts. I do have some in the room already but I’m looking for a variety of styles/kinds to make a nice variety for the next give-away. By that I mean, I want some panel quilts (I have some Spiderman panels), Big Fabric Haul tops, Fran tops and Ewa/her mom tops PLUS some from people in the US who have donated. I just need to get my act together.

I had had a lot of older tops buried in the tubs in the room and this year when it was time to quilt, rather than move the 20 or so quilts I had in there, I just chose to finish up newer quilt tops that came in recently.

It’s like using the freshest eggs first from your fridge because they are on top. Well, quilt tops and eggs aren’t really the same thing, but I do have a bigger variety in those tubs than I’ve been finishing up lately.

I wanted to check them out and review/remind myself what I had AND organize things once again.

I ended up taking out the single size out of this closet (down below) and putting more of the doubles in here.

Here’s what happened when I did the inventory.

I had to go through the various tubs and bags that were in there. I had to decide which things were ready to quilt and which tops need to be sorted and measured, added to, etc. In other words, I have two categories - “ready to quilt” and “not ready to quilt”.

So, I did that.

In the end, after a lot of sorting, checking out what I had (I’m glad I did that), I decided to leave almost everything there and just bring back about 5 things back to the house to work on.

The rest can wait.

I have determined to give this time of the year to my own stack of quilt tops if at all possible.

It is easy for me to get distracted.

Some photos. In the middle of the biggest mess, I didn’t think about taking photos. Sorry about that. I just wanted to get things sorted and get back home. Still not feeling 100%, though I’ve feeling better than Saturday and Sunday.

When I came across my bigger tops, I put them in the closet. That’s a lot of large tops (queen size). Check out this photo on the right.

I also made a short summary video for you.

So there are.

Enjoy!

Now you know. At the church building as of today - this was done on Monday, November 27, 2023 - I had 233 finished charity quilt tops waiting. Dozens more are there either unmeasured, needing a pressing or borders or both or something else in order to be considered “ready to quilt”.

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
