Now this one is large - very large!

This is also one of the oldest quilt tops I had sitting around. Sigh. I’m so sorry for throwing these all out at you in such a short period of time.

However, I have been determined to GET CAUGHT UP (remember -my goal?) - which means this is what I’m showing you. Yes I am.

This top is fine - but not one of my favorites. But it is one of my first scrappy quilts made into 9 patches. I then used this pretty blue TICKING fabric for the sashing. Now I know better - but this ticking is so densely woven that I just opted to quilt this on my Janome as I’ve had good success with that - much better than free motion quilting - either on the domestic or the long arm.

It took quite a while to quilt this which also brought me again a new appreciation for my long arm. Of course, this meant I had to sandwich it the old fashioned way and then quilt it. It’s fine. It was a nice change for me since I’d been focusing so much on quilting so many of my tops!

So here’s this one. I’m not sure at all what I will do with it. I didn’t make this as a charity quilt but if I don’t find someone to give it to directly, I will channel it over to the charity quilt pile after I add a label.

I didn’t know when I wrote the blog post initially, but I packaged it into a bundle pack and sent it to Ukraine in February.)

I am sure it was at least 10 years ago I made this if not more like 13 or 14 years ago now. It was one of my first “unfinished tops” that I started to collect and left lying in a room or shelf and not finishing. :(

Since all I did was straight line quilting, it was quite easy to do, but took quite a while! But overall, I’m very pleased with it!

I did make the 9 patches from 2.5” squares. So, this is a quite feasible quilt for anyone to do with a few 2.5” squares.

It’s quite a simple quilt with a classic idea. I’ve made plenty of these - but more early on in my quilting life than nowadays. I tend to do a bit more complicated things than this idea now BUT I do like the overall look.

I think the border kind of elevated the whole top. I made one before this but I gave it away and since it was so long ago, I don’t know if I even took a photo of it! Sadly I didn’t start taking good pictures til 2012.

So here’s a simple but classic idea! In the end, I’m pleased with it. I uploaded the free pattern here.
