Cultural: Winter Break for the kids!

Here in Poland we have another holiday right now for the children. Sometime in January or February, they have decided that the kids in Poland need to have 2 weeks off for winter break. The idea used to be, anyway, that they would go to the ski areas that are in the south part of Poland.

However, the last few years, anyway, there hasn’t been a lot of snow down there. Probably this year, we do have it. We are quite a ways from that part of Poland, however.

We have been having snow - but now it looks we are getting a warm spell and our snow might all melt away in the next few days.

They split the whole country up into regions and then over the course of this period of time there are divisions. Here’s how it looks by the map of Poland with the dates marked.

Here in Poland they put the days of the month first and then the month -so 29.01 means Jan. 29. We live in the region called mazowieckie which is that huge section that is light blue. The kids are in the middle of their winter break right now. I always disliked it when our kids had this first time frame because they just had a nice long Christmas break and the next one won’t be til Easter - though that’s not that long from now, really.

Because we don’t have little children at home anymore, it is difficult to know what all is planned, but a lot of times the local towns or culture centers plan a lot of different activities or day camp type programs to give the kids something to do if the parents have to keep working.

These are a couple of snow pictures I happened to snap the last couple of days - not related to this blog post but I decided to throw them in. :)

Many parents take off work and take the kids and head somewhere for a vacation!

This is not something I was ever familiar with in the states, so it feels kind of “fun”. I mean, not having to go to school for two weeks in the heart of winter is pretty nice, actually.

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
